Matt Goss Celebrates 10 years as a Las Vegas headliner and Receives two Humanitarian Awards

Sunday night, August 11, entertainer and beloved crooner/showman Matt Goss celebrated his 10-year anniversary as a Las Vegas Strip headliner with a special performance playing to a full house at 1OAK Nightclub inside The Mirage. As part of the evening's festivities, he was presented with not one, but two different Humanitarian Awards – one from the United Nations and a Humanitarian Medal from the Royal Society of St. George, England’s premiere patriotic organization. The entertainer was honored with the awards for all the work he has done behind the scenes for charity.

Macy’s Fashion Show Mall hosts Beauty & Fashion Bash in support of Tyler Robinson Foundation

Macy’s Fashion Show Mall hosted Tyler Robinson Foundation (TRF) families and community members during a Beauty & Fashion Bash on Saturday, Aug. 17. The event included pop-up stations throughout the store where attendees enjoyed makeovers, face painting and a balloon artist as well as kite-making, and a potting station for kids and parents to pot their very own plant in STORY. The afternoon also included a fashion show featuring TRF families wearing the season’s latest trends.

Macy’s presented TRF (the nonprofit organization of the Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum selling band Imagine Dragons) with a check for $2,000 to support the organization’s mission to strengthen families financially and emotionally as they cope with the tragedy of a childhood cancer diagnosis by providing grants to offset out-of-pocket life expenses.

Wednesday evening, August 16,  Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees & legendary British rock ‘n’ roll icons DEF LEPPARD launched their exclusive headlining residency show, Def Leppard Hits Vegas: The Sin City Residency, to a sold-out crowd at ZAPPOS THEATER AT PLANET HOLLYWOOD RESORT & CASINO. Produced by Live Nation and Caesars Entertainment, the rock spectacle features a selection of the band’s greatest hits, including “Love Bites,” “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Animal.” Marking the first rock music residency at Zappos Theater, Def Leppard also treated their fans to an intimate acoustic set of songs, some of which have never been played live for an audience. Tickets for performances through Sept. 7 are on sale now starting at $69, plus applicable tax and fees and may be purchased in-person at the Planet Hollywood box office. All shows begin at 8 p.m.

On Friday, August 16, DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS EVENTS CENTER (located at the corner of Third Street and Carson Avenue across from The D Las Vegas) celebrated its FIFTH ANNIVERSARY with a thrilling concert by co-headliners YOUNG THE GIANT and FITZ AND THE TANTRUM. With INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY approaching on August 26th, SmartAsset crunched the numbers to identify THE MOST DOG FRENDLY CITIES NATIONWIDE and LAS VEGAS RANKS IN THE NUMBER ONE SPOT! Moving up from third place in last year’s version of this study, Las Vegas offers many dog-friendly parks, restaurants and shopping centers as well as very few days with precipitation. Vegas ties for the fifth-highest number of dog parks per 100,000 residents out of all 100 cities in our study. The city also has the 18th- and 17th-highest number of dog-friendly restaurants and shopping centers, respectively. The STRAT HOTEL, CASINO AND SKYPOD will partner with ISI GROUP to host a LIVE ART AND SILENT AUCTION supporting local artists on the SkyPod’s indoor Observation Deck at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, Friday, Oct. 25, and Friday, Dec. 20. Hosted by Arturo Cecena and DJ Edoc, 20 artists will paint theme-centric pieces available for bidding in a silent auction. All auction proceeds will go directly to the local artists. THE SUPER SUMMER THEATRE continues its 44TH OUTDOOR SUMMER SERIES with the final show of the summer season, “NOISES OFF” playing Thursday, September 5 through Saturday, September 21. Called the “funniest farce ever written, “Noises Off” presents a manic menagerie of wayward actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and a wandering plate of sardines all factor into the plot of this hilarious and classically comedic production. AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate, made by Mars Wrigley, will open the doors to its ETHEL M® CHOCOLATE FACTORY, (located at 2 Cactus Garden Dr, in Henderson) to select Title 1 schools in the Henderson, Nevada area on Friday, September 6th as part of its “READING AND DISCOVERY EXPERIENCE” PROGRAM in partnership with the nonprofit social enterprise, First Book. The program is designed to address some of the challenges and resource gaps impacting students from low-income households. This activation will give 180 local students the unique opportunity to experience a hands-on chocolate-making demonstration, explore a 600-species cacti garden, tour the brand’s factory operations and participate in a Reading and Discovery Experience. The Candy Bomber: The Story of Berlin Airlift’s “Chocolate Pilot” chronicling Gail Halvorsen’s airdrop of candy to Berlin’s children after WWII will be read aloud and each student will also a brand-new copy. Each participating school principal will also receive a $1,000 check to be used for educational resources.

The LOST 80’s LIVE TOUR returns to DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS EVENTS CENTER on Saturday, September 7. Celebrating its 16th anniversary with 16 powerful acts, the tour will feature some of the most recognizable performers from one of the greatest decades in entertainment. BEER PARK AT PARIS LAS VEGAS will become the VEGAS HEADQUARTERS FOR FOOTBALL FANS with live entertainment, next-level tailgate fare and more than 75 high-definition TVs showing college and professional games starting Sunday, Sept. 8. BEER PARK will kick off the season with a party starting at 9 a.m. on Sept. 8, commemorating the first Sunday professional football game of the season.  In addition to a DJ playing fun party music in-between plays,  BEER PARK will offer complimentary face-painting for fans wanting to sport their team colors. QUEEN BEE MARKET will ‘bee’ back in Las Vegas just in time for fall shopping with a two-day market on Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14 at THE CONFERENCE CENTER OF LAS VEGAS. This will be the 29th Queen Bee Market since its creation in 2010, with artisans showcasing an array of handmade home décor, accessories, clothing, paper arts, vintage items, furniture and more. THE LAS VEGAS MEN'S CHORUS (LVMC) will perform its new SEPTEMBER CONCERT, “BECAUSE I'M HAPPY”, under the direction of Mr. Ryan Duff, esteemed CCSD educator and 2017 Heart of Education award recipient, at 4:00 p.m, Sunday September 15th, at The Flamingo Library, 1401 E. Flamingo near South Maryland Parkway. The Chorus will sing arrangements of songs popularized from movies, Broadway and other artists in a new show that will highlight how singing and music influences communication, sentiment and overall well being. With more pickleball courts than any Las Vegas hotel/casino, the PLAZA HOTEL & CASINO is again the official hotel and title sponsor of the LAS VEGAS PICKETBALL OPEN, Sept. 24-28. The annual competition saw registration more than double in its second year and expects to welcome nearly 650 players in 2019. Hundreds of amateur and professional pickleball players from across the United States and around the world, including Japan, Mexico and Canada, will participate in next month’s event. Players also span multiple generations, from 12 to 81 years of age. Many players from last year are also returning, including top pros Simone Jardim and Kyle Yates to defend their mixed doubles title.

The Las Vegas Pickleball Open offers professional players a competitive prize package of $25,000 split between grand prize, silver and bronze medalists. The Plaza will again construct special grandstand seating for championship matches that will be streamed live on the event website. The tournament will offer men’s, women’s, and mixed amateur doubles matches as well as men’s, women’s, mixed and senior (50-plus) professional doubles matches. Matches will be played from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with the scheduling of the championship matches to be announced. Rick Allen, drummer from the award-winning English rock band, Def Leppard, visited Club Tattoo at Miracle Mile Shops inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Local piercer Michael Christopher of Club Tattoo took to Instagram to post a photo of himself and Allen during his visit. Allen purchased jewelry for himself and mingled with fans inside the studio.

Saturday night, Aug. 17...

During the Psycho Las Vegas music festivalat Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino,  High on Fire lead man Matt Pike took a break from the festivities to get married. Pike wed Alyssa Maucere in an intimate ceremony at the Silver Wedding Chapel where they were married by Matt’s best friend in full garb.

Actor Vince Vaughn, widely known for his roles in comedy films such as “Wedding Crashers,” “Swingers” and “The Internship” was spotted attending the 10 p.m. performance of ABSINTHE at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. After the show he went backstage for a photo with The Gazillionaire and the alluring Green Fairy.

Guests shopping at Bellagio and ARIA boutiques on August 11 and 12 were greeted with a familiar face to assist. Actor, businesswoman and designer Sarah Jessica Parker welcomed customers into the stores and delighted guests by serving as their personal shopper.

Parker spent time individually styling and thoughtfully advising her fans as they picked out a new pair of shoes or accessory at her Bellagio boutique and Terrene at ARIA. On Monday afternoon she met additional shoppers with a second visit to her Bellagio boutique.
