Palazzo’s Dal Toro & Lamborghini Las Vegas Exemplify Italian Quality
Part I – The Place

The 4th of July typically conjures up visions of spectacular fireworks and streamers of colorful sparks exploding in celebration on a hot evening. Surprisingly, this kind of excitement, spectacle, and extraordinary vision can be found in an indoor venue as well, as witnessed by your humble correspondent who, accompanied by two companions, experienced an unexpected Italian adventure ironically during the most American of holidays.

Dal Toro & Lamborghini Las Vegas, featuring The Ultra Lounge, is a jaw-dropping experience within the confines of the hyper-elegant Palazzo Las Vegas. Housed within the sleek contemporary design of the restaurant is an actual Lamborghini showroom, a bi-level space that boasts Italian marble and leather in its construction to marvel at while eyeing a wide expanse of floor carpeted with Lambos, including a 1.8 million dollar Bugatti (don’t be alarmed – Gallardos start at around $188,000 with Murcielagos coming in at $325,000 so get out that checkbook).

Colors are bright and playful on these sharp, aerodynamic machines, the ultimate low riders. You’ll want to sit in the candy-apple red one, drive the one which rivals a bright yellow sun, and just simply be seen in the one sporting a bold lime exterior or the one that brings to mind memories of a ripe pumpkin. These babies only seat two, so you’ll never be hit on to chauffeur more than one slacker buddy at a time; they’ll have to qualify to be seen with you. You’ll also have the unfair advantage of being able to pass under most Mack trucks without so much as a scratch to your sleek auto-body. Hey, why have a car as magnificent as this if you’re going to play it safe? There’s nothing “lamb” about a Lamborghini with their vertical doors, leather seats, a control panel to rival that of a space shuttle and the sex appeal of the cast of X Burlesque and Chippendales combined.

The lower level museum-quality showroom also hosts an impressive art gallery of original work by German artist/sculptor Horst Kohlem, who incorporates substances such as sand and sawdust into his work for a multi-dimensional, terra cotta effect. The mixed media master’s paintings form the backdrop for the Lamborghinis displayed in straight lines flanking a hardwood dance floor (yes, this area can be used to host private events for up to 800 guests). Kohlem’s abstract images have been described as “atmospheric” and his use of color offsets the automotive works of art positioned between each of his.

Back upstairs again, the dining room beckoned us to a corner booth within its sleek, contemporary confines. Custom Italian furnishings follow a scarlet and burnt orange color scheme, and seating is spaced for easy traffic flow, providing a sense of leisure appropriate to the country of origin that Dal Toro emulates so admirably. In fact, like the Lamborghinis in the next room, many in upper management are Italian imports themselves, which accounts for the authentic, unmistakable accents emanating from the mouths of several charming people we encountered on our visit (chances are, you will, too).

The lovely patio sports elegant cream-colored umbrellas over hardwood tables, stone walkways, sculptured landscaping and 100 feet of marbled, mosaic Palladian Italian fountains. You can’t escape gorgeous at this place and the al fresco experience allows you to be seen in all of your Technicolor splendor as well.

Managing Partner David Turpin, 26, of True Management Group (which hosts parties at Dal Toro and Lamborghini) has altruistic goals in mind. The young entrepreneur hopes to raise money for various charities through upcoming events at the elegant venue, shooting toward the lofty goal of no less than $1,000,000 within one fiscal year. His presence at our table illustrated that true class comes not from the objects one acquires, but from the responsibility one takes on to share good fortune. With youth on his side, Turpin should realize his philanthropic goal well before 30.

Ultra Lounge Marketing Director David Rivera and Dal Toro Assistant Restaurant Manager Rex Herman were also on hand to enhance the culinary experience that awaited us with their knowledge and recommendations. If you think the sights were amazing, wait until you hear about the food, the specialty drinks, and the wonderful chef whose personality leaves the kitchen with every one of his signature dishes…

Part II – The Food (and Spirits) of Dal Toro appears in this space next week.
