2011 Licensing International Expo
The Licensing International Expo, which showcases the largest, most diverse collection of brands and properties available for licensing worldwide, set up shop at Mandalay Bay, June 14-16. The #1 Marketplace for Brands is the established industry leader, featuring all the major players. This year's participants included top licensees, manufacturers and retailers from across the globe representing more than more 90 countries encompassing almost 400 companies, more than 5,000 brands, 150 new exhibitors and all the most powerful licensing opportunities under one roof. Attendance for this year's expo was up 8%.
Licensing International Expo is the only event featuring this many top companies, from movie studios (such as Paramount, Warner Bros, Dreamworks Animation, to name a few) to TV entertainment, interactive and gaming, to corporate brands, fashion brands, celebrity brands, where consumer products are discovered and trends are set. For anyone looking for a business opportunity that targets upcoming trends, and to get a heads up on new and profitable product ideas or partners, this was the place to be.

Launch Party for Dan Horowitz's new book, The Pillow Treatment
Successful businessman, world traveler, former playboy, and author Dan Horowitz held a gala reception to celebrate the publication of his insightful new book, The Pillow Treatment, at his gorgeous, palatial home in Green Valley on Thursday evening, June 17.
The VIP event featured a fabulous catered gourmet dinner and open bar and a chance to meet the charming and dapper Horowitz who is in his eighties but looks fit and youthful as ever due to his strict regimen of exercise and diet.

The Pillow Treatment is described as a memoir and self help guide on “how to obtain good health, financial success and a perfect relationship with the opposite sex”.
Horowitz said he has had a wonderful life, dated many beautiful women, was a successful gambler, had psychic experiences, relived former lives, and wanted to share his incredible personal story that includes his share of mistakes and triumphs along the way.

Las Vegas Hilton Hosts 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards
The Las Vegas Hilton hosted the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday, June 19 which was broadcast live on CBS TV. The awards recognized outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the 2010 calendar year.
The telecast was hosted by entertainer Wayne Brady, host of the daytime game show, Let's Make a Deal, and included an illustrious group of presenters such as Daytime Emmy Award winner Rachael Ray (The Rachael Ray Show) and Dr. Mehmet Oz (Dr. Oz Show) along with actor Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds), legendary comedienne Carol Burnett, Anderson Cooper (Anderson Cooper 360), comedy magicians Penn and Teller, Meredith Viera (Formerly of NBC's Today Show), Sherri Shepherd (The View), Susan Lucci (All My Children), Jillian Michaels (The Biggest Loser), and many of the stars of TV's daytime dramas, also known as soap operas.

Musical performances were provided by Las Vegas headliners Gladys Knight and Marie Osmond as well as Cirque du Soleils Viva Elvis, Jabbawockeez and The Blue Man Group.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to game show hosts Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune and Alex Trebek of Jeopardy. In addition, Oprah Winfrey was honored with the Chairman's Crystal Pillar Award for her three decades of work on network television.

NHL Awards at Palms Casino Resort
The 2011 NHL (The National Hockey League) Awards took place at the Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Casino Resort on Wednesday, June 22. Hosted by actor/comedian Jay Mohr, the NHL Awards featured the best hockey players in the world alongside celebrities from music, stage and screen in celebration of the 2010-11 hockey season.
Presenters included actor Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”), director Kevin Smith, actress Cobie Smulders (“How I Met Your Mother), actress Jennifer Beals (“The Chicago Code”), director Jason Reitman, television personalities Adrienne Maloof and Camille Grammer (“Housewives of Beverly Hills”), Las Vegas headliners: master illusionist Criss Angel and entertainer Donny Osmond.
Among the performers were country music star Dierks Bentley and hip hop group Far East Movement.

The LAS VEGAS HOSPITALITY ASSOCIATION'S 25TH ANNUAL FUNDRAISING GOLD TOURNAMENT held at Cascata Golf Club on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, was sold out this year with 144 players. The event raised more than $20,000 to fund local scholarships and charities: Child of LVHA; College of Southern Nevada Foundation LVHA Scholarships; Nellis Air Force Base Spouse Scholarships; and the Valley High School Magnet School College Scholarship requests. “The money stays in Las Vegas and will help to develop our next generation of leaders,” said LVHA president J. J. Wills.
During his weekly press conference, on Thursday morning, June 16, Las Vegas MAYOR OSCAR GOODMAN welcomed INSOMNIAC CEO AND FOUDER PASQUALE ROTELLA to the City and presented him with a proclamation declaring the week of June 20, 2011, as “ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL WEEK” North America’s largest electronic music festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, will be held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway June 24-26, 2011, with more than 200 artists/performers and more than 200,000 attendees expected.

SUPER SUMMER THEATRE'S 36th Season Presents performances of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE on Wednesday, July 13. Earning the most 2006 Tony Awards of any musical on Broadway, The Drowsy Chaperone is a comical story-within-a-story that begins when a die-hard musical fan plays his favorite cast album, a 1928 smash hit called “The Drowsy Chaperone,” and the show magically bursts to life. The NBA announced it has decided to cancel its NBA SUMMER LEAGUE IN LAS VEGAS for 2011 since there appears to be no resolution to a new collective bargaining agreement with its players.The summer league, which has been in operation in Las Vegas since 2004 and had 23 teams participating last year, was scheduled for July 8-17 at Cox Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack Center.
