Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas Hosts 11th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™ Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas hosted the official 11th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™ ribbon cutting ceremony, presented by the Asian & Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship on Thursday, February 3. To welcome the Year of the Tiger, St. Mark’s Square transformed into a stunning spectacle as city officials and VIPs came together to kick-off the celebration with an honorary ribbon cutting ceremony. Governor Steve Sisolak and First Lady Kathy Sisolak, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony and National ACE Chairwoman Dr. Karen Eng, among others, were there to commemorate the occasion.
Guests were in for a stunning celebration as city officials and VIPs welcomed everyone with a few opening remarks. Creating a very special moment, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem, Stavros Anthony, presented a proclamation naming Thursday, Feb. 3, as Chinese New Year Day in the city of Las Vegas. As the events continued, select representatives participated in a traditional eye dotting ritual to awaken the lions and then conducted the official cutting of the ribbon. Bringing the festivities to an end, the lions paraded around the famed Shoppes, while traditional folk dancers performed for the crowd.

A first-time visitor from Utah tried his luck at The Orleans Hotel and Casino and hit a nearly $250,000 regional linked Pai Gow Poker progressive jackpot on Friday, January 22. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was playing Pai Gow Poker and bet $1 when he hit the rare natural seven-card straight flush, winning him a Pai Gow Poker progressive jackpot of more than $223,000 at 1:46 a.m. The player also placed a fortune bonus side bet of $5 that won him an extra $25,000. In total, the guest won $248,396 during his visit.
Two Las Vegas locals won big at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur, located at 740 S. Decatur Blvd. and Arizona Charlie’s Boulder, located at 4575 Boulder Hwy., with a combined total of $218,931 in winnings on Monday, Feb. 7. At Arizona Charlie’s Decatur, one local player won $191,428 while playing Dollar Storm, while another winner at Arizona Charlie’s Boulder won $27,503 while playing Wicked Wheel.
The new speakeasy bar, THE COUNTROOM LIVE AT FLAMINGO LAS VEGAS, featuring vintage vibes with a modern twist and the melodies of swing and funky jazz music, is now open inside Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse.Guests will be transported back to the “Old Vegas” era at The Count Room Live at Flamingo featuring live performances on Friday and Saturday evenings. 95.5 THE BULL'S GUITAR PULL returns to THE CHELSEA at the COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS on March 5. Tickets for the 12th annual event went on sale beginning Wednesday, Feb. 2. The evening will feature an all-star lineup of country music’s biggest stars including Scotty McCreery. Carly Pearce, Parker McCollum, Lauren Alaina, Ray Fulcher, and Laci Kaye Booth, with additional artists to be announced.
THE NEON MUSEUM'S Artist in Residence, GABRIEL BARCIA-COLOMBO, debuted his exhibition “SIMULATIONS OF THE SACRED” to the public on Friday, Feb. 11. Located at Juhl Las Vegas, the exhibition brings together digital technology, neon, and Mexican folk art to explore themes of reality, technology, and memorialization, creating a series of sculptures inspired by the signs in the Neon Museum’s collection. The exhibit is open for free public viewing at Juhl Las Vegas (353 E. Bonneville Ave #181, Las Vegas, Nev., 89101) Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 12 – 26, noon to 6 p.m. or by appointment.
BODIES…The Exhibition will recognize both American Heart Month and Black History Month with specially curated displays to raise awareness for heart disease and educate patrons about influential African American medical professionals who have contributed to the advancements of medicine and the medical community. BODIES…The Exhibition will feature a temporary installation spotlighting several prominent medical professionals. Curated displays are shown at the Exhibition now until Feb. 28 at Luxor Hotel and Casino.
Featured doctors include Dr. Alexa Canady, the first African American woman in the U.S. to become a neurosurgeon — specializing in congenital spine abnormalities, hydrocephalus and spinal tumors. Dr. Vivien Theodore Thomas, who was an instructor of surgery at John Hopkins School of Medicine, best known for his historic contribution in the “Blue Baby” operation, saving the lives of those who were struggling with heart complications that caused cyanosis, or oxygen deprivation. Dr. Richard Allen Williams, a cardiologist who was the first African American from Delaware to attend and graduate from Harvard University and founded the Association of Black Cardiologists in 1974. Dr. Williams is also the author of “The Textbook of Black-related Diseases,” which is widely considered the classic seminal work on the medical status of Black doctors. Dr. Williams touches on the topic of how some cultures are genetically predisposed to having a higher propensity for certain illnesses.
Las Vegas’ longest-running fully-interactive dinner theater experience, MARRIAGE CAN BE MURDER, announces its new residency at THE ORLEANS HOTEL & CASINO inside the newly renovated “The Venue” theatrical performance space,Thursday through Sunday starting February 11, 2022. "The Venue" is perfectly suited for a dinner-show and will include multiple stages around the space to keep guests totally immersed throughout the evening. Marriage Can Be Murder, is celebrating its 22nd year with a special show on Tuesday, February 22nd. On the lucky date of 2/22/22 tickets for the murder mystery comedy will be reduced nearly 75% to $22.22 and there will also be opportunities for free marriage vow renewals after the show.
LIGHT NIGHTCLUB, located at MANDALAY BAY RESORT & CASINO, adds to its star-studded lineup of the music industry’s top artists with Billboard Music Award-winning rapper IGGY AZALEA set to perform at the nightclub on Saturday, Feb. 19. THE FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE OF LAS VEGAS, a nonprofit organization for individuals with special needs, will hold its annual WALK4FRIENDSHIP LAS VEGAS COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER on Sunday, March 6 to raise awareness and resources to create a more inclusive community in Las Vegas for individuals with disabilities. In addition to the approximately 1-mile walk that starts at the Bet Yossef Community Center, (8551 Vegas Dr.), the event will feature a free community carnival at the Las Vegas Sports Park (1400 N. In town for the Tobacco Plus Expo, former NFL cornerback Ike Taylor stopped into the lounge with a couple of friends to celebrate his own line of cigars, 10FAHKINE from Howard G Cigars. In addition, NFL Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed, who is also in town for the Tobacco Plus Expo, visited the lounge with Nestor Plasencia of Plasencia Cigars with whom he is developing a cigar blend that will be available at a later date. Later in the evening, Reed and Plasencia were joined by Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller in one of Eight’s private smoking rooms where they smoked Plasencia cigars.
