Louie Anderson Opens his new show “Louie LOL” at Palace Station

The showroom, formerly known as Bonkerz Comedy Club, at Palace Station has been renamed The Louie Anderson Theatre, and for good reason. After headlining at the Excalibur for four years, veteran comedian Louie Anderson brings his new show to the venue where he now performs five nights a week, Tuesday through Saturday, at 8:30 p.m.

Louie's new show is called Louie LOL (short for laughing out loud), and as a member of his audience on media night, I can honestly say that was the continuous feedback he got from the crowd. The rotund comedian is one very funny guy and he had the audience in his grasp from the moment he arrived on stage to his closing joke. Louie is a rarity among today's stand up comics, in that he never resorts to vulgar humor, never spews out the F bomb and other profanity, or includes racial jokes in his act to get a laugh. He proves it isn't necessary when you have good, relatable material that connects with your audience.

Appearing very comfortable on stage in his own skin, Louie's act ranges from talking about his favorite subject, eating, and his love of food as he pokes fun at himself and his obvious large size. His ongoing struggle with food and staying healthy is so relatable to much of the population as well as the line, “My mom was a food pusher.” What mother isn't? Food is Louie's drug of choice. “I was born with the munchies. I don't need to smoke pot to get the munchies”, he says with a laugh.

Louie also finds humor in a variety of topics and shares his acute observations on everything such as Las Vegas gambling and all day buffets, experiences at the airport, his take on the latest movies, memorable and loving reflections of “the two people who had the biggest influence” on his life - his pack rat parents and groaning and moaning Dad, and ramifications of turning 50.

Knowing just what will strike a chord with his audience is a talent he has fine tuned throughout his career. At 57 years old, the comedy star is at the top of his game delivering a family friendly evening of good, clean fun.

And, if laughter is the best medicine, you are guaranteed a heavy dose during Louie's performance. Go catch his show and laugh out loud.

Tickets for Louie LOL are $49.95 for the 8:30 p.m. show Tuesdays through Saturdays. The show is dark Sundays and Mondays.
