Golden Rainbow Holds 24th annual “Ribbon of Life” Fund raising Show

On Sunday June 13, I attended the 24th annual “Ribbon of Life” charity fundraiser at the Las Vegas Hilton presented by the Las Vegas based HIV/AIDS charity Golden Rainbow. Proceeds in the amount of of $175,000 from ticket sales (which ranged from $25 to 200) and a silent auction went to benefit Golden Rainbow whose mission is to provide housing and direct financial assistance to southern Nevadans living with HIV/AIDS and to support prevention education.

The show featured the flamboyant and comical Edie (Christopher Kenney from Zumanity) decked out in drag as host/ess and a cast of 300 performers from numerous Las Vegas shows and theatrical organization including Jubilee, Studio 54, Viva Elvis, Phantom – the Las Vegas Spectacular, Jersey Boys, Love, La Reve, The Lion King, Fantasy, The Nevada Ballet, the accapella group Mosaic, and more. Also on the roster were The Flirt Dancers from Los Angeles performing a number titled “Toxic”, and students from Green Valley High School performing a medley from the musical “Rent.”

The afternoon show lasted over two hours without an intermission and encompassed 24 numbers that thrilled the audience of over 1300.

Performing solo was Jersey Boys star Travis Cloer, who sang “Georgia on My Mind”, Kristen Hertzenberg from Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular doing a moving rendition of “When He Loves Me, and Voices star Lani Misalucha who belted out an amazing version of Whitney Houston's“I Believe in You and Me.”

There was an incredible amount of talent assembled together for this charity event, but one performance that hit a particular chord with the audience in terms of being lively, entertaining and downright adorable was the Grease Monkeys number performed by Dancing Mothers and Fathers and their little ones which included babies. It was a joy to behold!

Other highlights included the absolutely mesmerizing and beautiful “Broken Vow” performed by Nevada Ballet dancers Barrington Lohr and Mary Croix with vocals by Ryan Ralph, and the sexy Forbidden Fruit (Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden) dance routine, performed by cast members of Peep Show.
This was the first time I had attended the annual Ribbon of Life fundraiser, but I can attest that ticket buyers, without a doubt, got their money's worth. Some of the best performers Las Vegas has to offer lent their time and talents to the production, and the result was a spectacular show for a worthy cause.
