Belated happy birthday wishes to Las Vegas resident, actor/artist Tony Curtis, who celebrated his 85th on June 3rd.

Martha Banks, soprano and doctoral candidate at UNLV, was named the national winner of the Classical Singer Magazine vocal competition for 2010 Sunday, May 30 in New York City. The competition consisted of more than 1,100 singers from over 60 universities and conservatories. Included were singers from all of the top 10 music schools in the U.S. All voice types competed for a scholarship award and a recording contract session in NY with orchestra.

Encore Beach Club opened at Wynn Las Vegas over the Memorial Day weekend.  The 60,000-square-foot venue features a lush oasis with three tiered pools, daybeds featuring private safes and 26 cabanas outfitted with refrigerators and flat screen televisions, and will be the premier destination for the trendsetter seeking the quality party atmosphere usually found in European hot spots. Eight two-story bungalows offer views of the Las Vegas Strip with hot tubs, showers, lavish furnishings and a temperature-controlled cooling and heating system set to each guest’s preferences. As day turns into night, the party moves into the chic 5,000 square foot Surrender Nightclub,  for those seeking an upscale evening soirée. Hours of operation for  Encore Beach Club are Seven days a week from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and on Thursdays from 10 p.m. until closing. Surrender Nightclub is open  Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, 10 p.m. – closing.

Both venues will celebrate the Las Vegas local community and hospitality industry with three weekly parties. Industry personnel and local ladies will receive complimentary entrance to all three with a Nevada ID.

Every Wednesday evening, Surrender Nightclub will ask locals to "Surrender Your Wednesdays" with an indoor industry bash. The party kicks off on June 2 at 10 p.m.

Encore Beach Club seamlessly transitions daylife to nightlife by transforming into an exclusively outdoor evening swim party dubbed "EBC at Night." June 3 will be the kick-off for this highly anticipated event, continuing every Thursday through the season.

On May 26,  a VIP party was held at Rick Belcastro’s 15,000-square-foot Badda Bing (located at 3500 West Naples Drive) to celebrate the second anniversary of the luxurious gentlemen's club and the 70th birthday of local columnist and one of Las Vegas' most colorful characters, Monti Rock III. The event marked the debut of the “Chapel of Lust” Wedding Chapel with Reverend Monti Rock performing a wedding. United Way of Southern Nevada held their annual Tocqueville Society Dinner to honor its distinguished members of the Tocqueville Society on Wed. June 2.   Michael and Jennifer Yackira received special recognition for their outstanding leadership and commitment to the nonprofit organization. Celebrating the inspirational power of philanthropy, Donald D. Snyder was the keynote speaker. Those who attended the event confirmed their minimum commitment of $10,000 to the 2010 Annual Campaign to create lasting change to improve lives.

Singing impressionist/comedian Larry G Jones will open his one-man show at the Harmon Theater at Planet Hollywood June 8. Showtime is 7 p.m.  The show is produced by Raphael Erardy who worked with the late Danny Gans as his collaborator and drummer for more than 20 years. The show will feature the talented Jones performing over 75 rapid-fire vocal impressions of numerous celebrities, politicians and many of Las Vegas' biggest headliners including Cher, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Elvis, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Rat Pack .Tickets are priced at $47.97 and $67.97. Performances are nightly except for Sundays and Thursdays.

Las Vegas International Press Association is honoring singer  Julio Iglesias with the Maximum Hispanic Pride (Máximo Orgullo Hispano) award.  The Clark County Commissioners are also naming June 10 “Julio Iglesias Day.” This day marks the first of his 2010 Las Vegas concert series.

Iglesias will be performing at the Las Vegas Hilton June 10, 11 and 12. The show starts at 8 p.m. each night. Tickets can be purchased starting at $59 plus tax and applicable service charges

Due to popular demand, Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular has extended the military “ticket match” through July 4 to honor our military heroes. For every full-priced ticket purchased by the public, Phantom will donate one ticket to the men and women of Nellis and Creech Air Force Base. As part of the “Friday Night Live” free concert series Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Annie Meadows will perform  7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, June 18, 2010 at The Village Lake Las Vegas.  Meadows will perform the first half of the evening solo and then will be joined by a full band.

Cannery Casino & Hotel hosts the Eighth Annual Blues, Brews and BBQ Festival on Saturday, June 19. After two months away, Steel Panther returns to Green Valley Ranch’s Ovation beginning Saturday, June 19. Best known for its embodiment of all that is rock ‘n’ roll, the ’80s glam metal parody band rocks the stage with its colorful repartee, loud costumes and graphic body language, in addition to paying homage to great bands like Bon Jovi, Motley Crue and Poison. The Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros show which was scheduled for July 3, 2010 at Crown Theater inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino has been relocated to Hard Rock Café Live on the Strip at 3771 Las Vegas Blvd. S.

With the venue change, the show is now 18 years of age and over instead of 21 and over. All tickets will be honored at the new venue and show date and time remain the same: July 3, 2010. Doors at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are still $18 plus additional service fees

Following the Simon G Jewelry gala event at the Venetian, Nikki Reed, Robin Thicke, Gilles Marini, Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts gathered at Aquaknox for dinner.
