Rock icon Sammy Hagar and Rick Springfield Celebrate Reinvention of The STRAT Hotel, Casino & SkyPod

After completing over $100 million in renovations at The Strat Hotel, Casino & SkyPod, Golden Entertainment, Inc. marked the official transition to the iconic property’s new identity with a special event on Wednesday, January 22 hosted by rock icon, Sammy Hagar.

Guy Fieri, Rick Springfield and Governor Steve Sisolak were among the special guests who commemorated the transformation and transition to the iconic property’s new name.

The event began with a ribbon cutting, where Charles Protell, president and chief financial officer and Steve Arcana, executive vice president and chief operations operator of Golden Entertainment, Inc., the parent company of The STRAT, welcomed guests along with the hotel’s vice president and general manager, Stephen Thayer. City of Las Vegas Council members Olivia Diaz and Cedric Crear proclaimed the day, “The STRAT Hotel, Casino & SkyPod Day,” on behalf of the City of Las Vegas; and proclamations were presented by Governor Sisolak and Congresswoman Dina Titus on behalf of the State of Nevada.

As the ribbon cutting ceremony came to an end with Hagar, he was surprised by Fieri, who snuck up behind him. Fieri, who is Hagar’s friend and business partner in Santo Blanco Tequila and Santo Mezquila, was celebrating his birthday. The surprise guest and Food Network favorite unexpectedly showed up just in time to cut the ribbon with the rest of the guests.

In addition to celebrating the transformation of The STRAT, Hagar, Springfield and Fieri were also celebrating a new partnership with Golden Entertainment for their spirits. Fieri and Hagar are partners in Santo, and during the event Hagar announced that Springfield is his new partner in Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum. The trio went from the ribbon cutting at The STRAT’s main entrance straight to REMIX Lounge, where they poured shots and drinks for a packed bar full of fans. Fieri was presented with a birthday cake made by Freed’s Bakery of Food Network’s “Vegas Cakes” honoring him and their tequila with “Blondes and Blancos Have More Fun.” Proving the birthday message rings true, Fieri poured Santo Blanco Tequila over the cake and then served it to fans in cocktail glasses.

The group then joined the ‘blue carpet,’ a nod to The STRAT’s new identity, where they joined other celebrities and entertainers for photographs including DJ ASHBA, Carrot Top, special guest hosts Joss Mooney and Rogan O’Connor; professional BMX Rider and TV personality, Ricardo Laguna; the host of Crazy Girls, Dani Elizabeth; Murray The Magician; and the casts ofCelestia, the otherworldly new production at The STRAT, FANTASY, Thunder from Down Under and Chippendales.

Hundreds of VIP guests enjoyed a “Taste of The STRAT” with food stations from the property’s award-winning Top of the World restaurant and elevated pub, BLVD & MAIN Taphouse.

“With this comprehensive renovation of The STRAT, we are introducing a new era for the iconic Las Vegas Strip hotel and casino,” said Blake L. Sartini, chief executive officer of Golden Entertainment. “This includes elevated design, restaurants, bars, entertainment, rooms and a new Observation Deck, all accentuated by custom art installations created by talented local artists,”

A full remodel of the entire 80,000-square-foot casino, which encompasses 750 slot machines and 44 tables, including a Baccarat pit, is now completed. Designed to improve sight lines and the flow of traffic to enhance the overall guest experience, the casino has been completely transformed. From the carpet to décor, the colors were inspired by the sky, sun, stars and moon with shades of blue and amber. Other new features include directional signage, a full redesign of the hotel registration area, and a video wall behind the box office.

The exterior has been renovated to deliver a striking new arrival for guests through new landscape architecture at the main entrance and surrounding the property; new exterior signage on the tower and at the porte cochere, where new LED is customized for holidays and special events; and a new LED screen showcasing vibrant video content.

Complete with silk-lantern chandeliers, firecrackers and a gilded representation of the first animal in the Chinese Zodiac, the Rat, this display is comprised of more than 32,000 flowers.

The result of collaborative efforts between designer Ed Libby, Bellagio’s horticulture team and Feng Shui Master George Yau, the intricate creation is layered with meaningful features honoring The Year of the Rat. Each Lunar New Year, the team collaborates to create a serene environment guided by the ancient practice of Feng Shui – the art of using surroundings to attract harmony, balance and positive life energy. Represented throughout the display, the theme “Free Flowing Fortune” is signified by the blending of elements from Asian culture and Western ideology.

The Conservatory & Botanical Gardens is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is FREE to the public.

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas Celebrates Chinese New Year 2020 Year of the Rat

The rat is the first of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals, which has existed since the Qin dynasty, more than 2,000 years ago. “The Chinese zodiac is very deep and very traditional,” said Dana Beatty, executive director of floral operations. “We take the sensitivities of this cultural event very seriously. For example, I consult with a feng shui master in designing each art installation, to make sure we have considered all of the culture’s beliefs and requirements for such a display.”

Conception to completion of the featured rodent in the waterfall atrium took nearly one year. A group of artisans from California handcrafted the 18-foot-tall steel and gold painted rat. In addition, nine playful rats have been installed throughout the resort, including one at The Palazzo tower front desk that sits eight feet tall, as well as an ox, the secret friend of the rat.
