Nearly 5,000 locals and visitors attended Ethel M Chocolates’ 25th Anniversary of their annual Holiday Cactus Lighting, on Tuesday evening, November 6, featuring special guests Penn and Teller, singer-songwriter Matt Goss, the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Travis Cloer, and singers Jaclyn McSpadden and Paul Johnson. The event brought in hundreds of monetary and material donations to local charities Three Square and Help of Southern Nevada, in addition to Ethel M Chocolate’s most recent partner, CARE® International.

Each entertainer brought unparalleled energy to the stage as thousands of onlookers waited for the finale: Penn and Teller’s dramatic flip of the switch, turning on over a million energy efficient lights in Ethel M Chocolates’ three-acre cactus garden.

Guests wandered through the garden enjoying hot chocolate and hand-dipped chocolate treats from the brand-new Ethel M Chocolates’ outdoor food truck and posing for photos inside the life-size inflatable snow globe. Members of the Vegas Ballet Theater’s upcoming show, The Nutcracker, and the cactus garden’s Santa also posed for photos as hundreds entered the Ethel M Chocolates’ flagship store to sample chocolate and purchase limited-edition holiday treats.

Golden Entertainment Raises More Than $30,000 for ALS at Annual Golf Tournament

Golden Entertainment, Inc.,(which owns and operates seven properties in Southern Nevada, including Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower in Las Vegas, Aquarius Casino Resort in Laughlin), held its 12th annual golf tournament on Thursday, Nov. 1, at Spanish Trails Country Club in Las Vegas. Over 200 people participated, raising more than $30,000 for the ALS Association Nevada Chapter.

Participants included vendors, clients and team members of Golden Entertainment. The company’s donations, along with the direct support and fundraising efforts by Golden Entertainment executive vice president and chief operating officer, Steve Arcana, have raised more than $230,000 for the ALS Association Nevada Chapter this year.

The money raised will assist the non-profit organization in its mission to serve all persons and their families living with and fighting ALS in Nevada, one person at a time. The Nevada Chapter provides much-needed programs that offer emotional, physical, and financial assistance and currently serves 90 people with ALS in Nevada.

“This isn’t just a cause for me, it’s a mission,” said Arcana, who is a board member of the ALS Association Nevada Chapter. “My mother fought her own battle with ALS and I know first-hand that funding for ongoing patient care is critical for the support of families and those suffering with this disease. Through the support of Golden Entertainment and our partners, we have been able to take local fundraising efforts to new heights.”

‘Battle of the Bras & Boxers’ Fashion Show Raises Over $157,000 for the American Cancer Society to Benefit Las Vegas Community

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Caesars Entertainment Las Vegas resorts raised over $157,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society through the ninth annual “Battle of the Bras & Boxers” fashion show hosted at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Tuesday, Oct. 30. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and the services and treatments the organization provides specifically to the Las Vegas community.

Teams of Caesars Entertainment employees from the Las Vegas region embraced this year’s Halloween theme of “Fight the Fright” by decorating bras and boxers and selecting costumes for their property or corporate leaders to model down a catwalk in front of cheering fans. To raise money for this fun competition for a cause, 42 senior leaders and team members modeled bras and boxers decorated by Caesars Entertainment employees.

During the month of October, Caesars Entertainment held many events including “Real Men Wear Heels,” in partnership with the North Las Vegas Fire Department to exceed the goal of raising $150,000. A total of 128 bras were decorated and available for bidding, most of them in a Halloween or Vegas Golden Knights theme.

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada Held 20th Annual Halloween Bash at Ellis Island

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada held its spookiest celebration of the year, the 20th annual Halloween Bash at Ellis Island Hotel on Thursday, Oct. 25. More than 600 guests attended and $111,750 was raised at this year’s event, held for Candlelighters families whose diagnosed child is aged 12 and under, providing an opportunity to enjoy a fall festival with carnival games, bounce houses, a petting zoo, prizes, dinner and trick-or-treating in a safe, fun environment.

Ellis Island Hotel has hosted the event since its inception two decades ago, providing rooms, event space, tents and food and beverage. In addition to serving as a quality of life event for Candlelighters families, the Halloween Bash serves as a fundraiser for the foundation. Local companies, individuals and organizations sponsor nearly 100 different rooms at Ellis Island Hotel, which they decorate and hand out candy to Candlelighters’ children.

On Thursday, November 8, military couples celebrated vows citywide with the 2nd ANNUAL LAS VEGAS MARRIES THE MILITARY. Eleven couples from all over the country came to Las Vegas to get married or renew their vows in free ceremonies sponsored by Clark County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya, the Las Vegas Wedding Chamber of Commerce and the local wedding industry as a kickoff to Veterans Day Weekend.

Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas concluded its 15th annual OKTOBERFEST celebration as ‘90s R&B crooners ALL-4-ONE tapped the keg on Friday, Oct. 26. Currently performing at Paris Las Vegas in SALT-N-PEPA'S I LOVE THE ‘90s – THE VEGAS SHOW, the group, known for famed hits, “I Swear,” “I Can Love You Like That” and “Someday,” is currently celebrating 25 years of performing together. On Saturday, Oct. 27, as the final keg tapper of the 2018 season, professional BMX dirt jumper RICARDO LAGUNA rolled into the Haus, performing a variety of tricks on his bike for an enthusiastic crowd.

Majestic Repertory Theatre continues its 2018-19 season with a dark comedy by this year’s hottest playwright Lucas Hnath: A PUBLIC READING OF AN UNPRODUCED SCREENPLAY ABOUT THE DEATH OF WALT DISNEY. The play touches on the dark side of Disney, including the lemming documentary scandal, his failed attempt to make EPCOT a functional working city, and the urban legend of his cryogenically frozen head. “I put this show in our season not only because of its masterful complexity, but Las Vegas’s relative proximity to Disneyland and Walt’s legacy makes this play one our audience will especially appreciate,” says director Troy Heard. Performances are November 1 through 25, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Majestic Repertory Theatre is located at 1217 S. Main St. in the Arts District. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $15 for students.

For the 11th consecutive holiday season, MACY'S partnering with MAKE-A-WISH for the annual BELEIVE CAMPAIGN, giving the gift of joy to children with serious illnesses. By sending a holiday wish list to Santa, shoppers can help grant the wish of a critically ill child. Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish for each letter sent, up to one million dollars, from November 2, 2018, to December 24, 2018. Customers can write their letters and drop them off in stores in the red Believe letterboxes or submit them online at macys.com/believe.

Help join in the festivities with a special launch event in Macy’s Downtown Summerlin. This year at Macy’s Downtown Summerlin, wish kids from Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada will be escorted to the Macy’s Downtown Summerlin store in a fire truck and police squad cars and greeted at the entrance by local first responders and community members. The wish kids will walk the blue and red carpet and wave to the crowd. Wish kids will then write their first letters to Santa and drop them into the Macy’s Believe mailbox to celebrate the annual Macy’s Believe campaign during the holidays.

 The Las Vegas return of Disney’s THE LION KING begins a three week engagement at the The Smith Center from Nov. 7 through Nov. 25.Tickets are available at The Smith Center box office. VIP Ticket Packages, which include a prime seat location, a commemorative souvenir program and an exclusive merchandise item, are also available.

A special sensory-friendly performance of Disney’s THE LION KING will be presented on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. for individuals with sensory sensitivities and other intellectual or developmental disabilities and their families. This marks the first-ever sensory-friendly performance of a touring Broadway show in Las Vegas, with support provided by Windsong Trust and other donors.

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is giving away Family 4-Packs of tickets to THE LION KING, during its run at The Smith Center.THE LION KING ticket giveaway will take place at all 25 Library District branches now through November 14. Winners will be contacted on November 15, and the tickets are for the November 20 performance. A Las Vegas Valley artist is gaining attention for his humorous comic characters inspired by his pets. Graphic illustrator and cartoonist Francis Baytan, also known as PHRANZ, has created a multi-strip Chai and Mulligan! Unleashed comic-strip book to be enjoyed by dog-lovers across the world. The Instagram-artwork-turned-book is available now on Kickstarter until November 26, with production scheduled to begin in early 2019. In preparation for the book’s debut, the artist will be showing off his works at the upcoming Great American Comic Convention from November 17-18.

On November 17, BELLAGIO GALLERY OF FINE ART will debut two installations by renowned artist YAYOI KUSAMA. Recognized today for her robust career, Time Magazine named her one of the most influential people in the world in 2016. An immersive experience for visitors, Yayoi Kusama offers a unique wonderland of lights and reflections where guests are invited to experience each artwork from within. Both installations, Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity and Narcissus Garden, will awaken a sense of wonder and showcase Kusama’s exploration of infinite space.Yayoi Kusama will be on view Saturday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, April 28, 2019. DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS EVENTS CENTER AND COLLECTIVE ZOO are teaming up to bring ‘GOODNESS’ back for year two on Wednesday, November 21. CSN’S DANCE PROGRAM presents choreographer Kelly Roth's new ballet set to Franz “WINTERREISE” (WINTER JOURNEY) on Friday, November 30 at 7 pm and Saturday, December 1st. at 2 pm inside the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre. General Admission is $8.00, students and seniors $5.00.

CSN FINE ARTS MUSIC PROGRAM presents an afternoon of classic and contemporary jazz selections performed by THE JAZZ SINGERS AND THREE JAZZ COMBO GROUPS. The concert will take place on Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the BackStage Theatre at the North Las Vegas campus. General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. This event is presented by the CSN’s Fine Arts Department.

THE CSN ORCHESTRA, conducted by Charles Cushionery presents an END-OF-THE-SEMESTER CONCERT with engaging musical selections by some of the most revered composers. This special concert event will also feature the CSN’s Chamber Chorale. The concert takes place Monday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Nicholas J. SU CASA, the Silverton Casino Hotel’s newest culinary venture nestled inside Mi Casa Grill Cantina, is now open.
