Highly Anticipated Cosmopolitan Las Vegas Opens

Just a few weeks before 2010 came to a close, the highly anticipated newest strip resort The Cosmopolitan opened its doors to the public on the evening of Wednesday, December 15 with 2,000 of its 2,995 rooms ready to accommodate guests. It was the only hotel-casino to open in 2010, with the remainder of its rooms scheduled to open by July 2011.

Located on 8.7 acres between the Bellagio and CityCenter overlooking the strip, the $3.9 billion vertical multi-tower, luxury hotel casino can be described as sleek, stylish as well as adventurous, fashionably hip and welcoming, offering a different kind of Las Vegas experience.

There are several things that are unique about The Cosmopolitan. To begin with, guests are offered oversized condominium style room accommodations featuring expansive one-of-a-kind private terraces that provide a spectacular view of the strip. All the rooms have beautiful contemporary furniture, amenities and art designed by architect David Rockwell and include a custom bar, Japanese soaking tubs and rain showers, kitchenettes, microwaves, a sophisticated entertainment system, plasma screen television, high-speed wireless Internet and control panels.

Visitors to the resort have the opportunity to enjoy diverse dining experiences from some of the country's top chefs, three distinct pool environments, a 100,000-square-foot casino, a spa and fitness facility, Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub, a multi-level integrated nightclub, 36,000 square feet of eclectic retail shops, including those that are new to the Las Vegas market including British-brand AllSaints and Beckley, a boutique featuring women's clothing and accessories. In addition Cosmopolitan promises unprecedented services and amenities and innovative new membership offerings and 150,000 square feet of state-of-the-art convention and meeting space. Signature restaurants include: Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill by restaurateurs Bruce and Eric Bromberg; Comme Ça by Los Angeles Chef David Myers; Estiatorio Milos, by international restaurateur Costas Spiliadis; Holsteins from Block 16 Hospitality; Jaleo and China Poblano restaurants by acclaimed Chef José Andrés; Scarpetta and D.O.C.G. by award-winning Chef Scott Conant; and popular steakhouse STK from The One Group.

Another unique feature about The Cosmopolitan, which cannot be found among any of the other strip resorts, is that the shops, restaurants and other amenities are situated on multiple floors throughout the two 50-story vertical towers.

Sure to draw the attention of visitors from all over the world is the three-story bar venue draped in ropes made up of two million crystals called The Chandelier. Located in the heart of Cosmopolitan, it is the largest chandelier in North America and consists of ten smaller chandeliers within.

Upon entering the hotel's lobby, guests will be greeted by rows of columns patterned in high-definition video screens displaying works of digital art 24 hours a day.
The video columns play video art created exclusively for The Cosmopolitan by Digital Kitchen and David Rockwell Studio.

"We are bringing back a bit of personality to Las Vegas," Cosmopolitan CEO John Unwin told about 200 employees and invited guests who gathered in the casino prior to the opening.
