Penn & Teller Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary and Extended Contract With Rio

The notorious Bad Boys of Magic, Penn & Teller, who have performed together for thirty years and have stunned audiences with their edgy comedy illusions, celebrated their upcoming ten-year anniversary at the Rio on Tuesday, Oct. 26 with a special performance in which they revealed several new tricks. At the end of their show Jeff Solomon, assistant general manager of the Rio, and Michael Weaver, vice president of marketing for Harrah’s Las Vegas region, came on stage and officially announced that Penn & Teller’s contract to perform at the property has been extended through 2013, with options for two more years through 2015.

"After performing nightly for 10 years in the conveniently named Penn & Teller Theater, we're really looking forward to spending another three years there,” stated Penn Jillette, the larger, talkative member of the duo. “We've never played anywhere for this long or worked in such a beautiful theater. The Rio and its staff have really made this our true home."

The comedy-magic duo was then surprised with their own Penn & Teller-branded metal lunchboxes filled with their favorite treats – peanut brittle (Penn) and chocolate covered strawberries (Teller).

Following the show there was an after party for VIP guests in the luxurious Palazzo suites at the Rio that were transformed into Penn & Teller’s haunted mansion, complete with cobwebs skeletons, spiders (the fake rubber kind) and other creepy, but fun stuff, just in time for Halloween. In honor of their 10th anniversary a celebratory cake made in the form of casket with saws, skulls, bones and attached headstone, was presented to the comedy-magic team for everyone to enjoy and feast upon. That is, if they could get past the skeletons seated around the dining room table.

Celebrities in attendance and joining in on the festivities included prop comedian Carrot Top, magicians Mac King and Nathan Burton, rocker Vince Neil, comedian David Brenner, adult film star Ron Jeremy and star of the sultry topless revue Fantasy, Lorena Peril.

In addition to their special anniversary show and after party, Penn & Teller are marking the milestone by unveiling new, distinctively offbeat creative advertisements. Complementing the brand new, larger than life depiction of Penn and a helium-filled Teller, which currently stands 26-stories high and graces the side of the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, the comedy-magic team is introducing a whole new set of cleverly-deranged images to run in print advertisements and on billboards, locally as well as nationally. The comically-demented advertisements offers a visual testament to the dangers of improper handsaw use, a clear example of why you shouldn’t play with helium and how one can really use their brains to jump rope.

If you ever wanted to see Penn& Teller’s show, now is the time. With the new added elements, it is better than ever. Trust me, with their daring trademark wit and shocking brand of comedy and magic, these eccentric pranksters offer a show like no other magic act around.
