Actor Tony Curtis Dies in Las Vegas Home

Former Hollywood movie star Tony Curtis, who lived with his wife Jill in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson died of cardiac arrest in his home on Wednesday evening, September 29. He was 85. "He died peacefully here, surrounded by those who love him and have been caring for him," his wife told The Associated Press outside their home.

The Oscar nominated actor, born Bernard Schwartz in the Bronx, starred in 150 films including"Sweet Smell of Success," "The Defiant Ones", "Spartacus and "Some Like It Hot”. From 1978 to 1981 Curtis appeared in a recurring role on the TV series Vega$. More recently, he channelled his energy into his love of painting, and as a critically acclaimed artist demanded as much as $20,000 for a piece of his work.

In 2004, Curtis was inducted into the Nevada Entertainer/Artist Hall of Fame at UNLV. He is survived by six children from three of his former marriages (including actress Jamie Lee Curtis, from first wife, actress Janet Leigh). According to KSNV-TV in Las Vegas, a public memorial service for the star will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Palm Mortuary and Cemetery on South Eastern, followed by a reception to be held at the Luxor.

As the entertainment world mourns the passing of yet another Hollywood icon, our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.
