Golden Rainbow's 26th annual “Ribbon of Life” fundraiser
Celebrating 26 years of service to Southern Nevada’s HIV/AIDS community, Golden Rainbow, a nonprofit organization that provides housing and direct financial assistance to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, presented its annual “Ribbon of Life” fundraising production for the first time on the main stage at the new Smith Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, June 24.
Approximately 1,630 attendees filled Reynolds Hall as 380 performers from the best shows on the Las Vegas Strip as well as local entertainment companies like RagTag Entertainment and the Las Vegas Deaf Theatre took the stage in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Hosted by 8 News Now anchor Chris Saldaña and appropriately themed “Ovations,” this year’s show included a special appearance by comedian George Wallace, Riva Rice from Vegas! The Show performing “Ovations of Josephine Baker,” Broadway in the Hood with “Circle of Life,” from The Lion King, Jubilee! in “Sing, Sing, Swing,” Las Vegas Tenors’ rendition of “Rock of Ages,” a capella group Mo5aic, Clint Holmes singing Rogers & Hart's "It Never Entered My Mind" and Stephen Sondheim's "Losing My Mind", performers from PEEPSHOW, Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas and Centrifuge teamed up for “In the Heights,” The Las Vegas City Ballet along with performers from Jubilee!, Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular, Nevada Ballet Theatre with a medley from “West Side Story,” plus outstanding musical numbers from other Broadway hits including Chicago, Company, Miss Saigon, Spamalot, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and more. A few of the electrifying performances brought the audience to standing ovations.

Special guests KSNE Sunny 106.5’s Melanie Myers and Zach Dillon, Golden Globe-winning actress and Grammy-nominated singer Pia Zadora, and “Who's The Boss” former child actor, Danny Pintauro joined in on the action, introducing select acts throughout the show. For the second consecutive year, Freed’s Bakery helped Golden Rainbow celebrate with a three-tiered cake donned with red draping, gold flowers and pearls made from icing.
This year’s record-breaking show raised more than $200,000. In addition to the onstage spectacular, Golden Rainbow hosted a silent auction with exclusive prizes such as vacation packages, Tiffany & Co. jewelry, designer handbags, show tickets, dinner packages, one-of-a-kind art and more. The auction raised $17,000. All proceeds from the fundraiser directly benefit the organization’s Direct Financial Assistance and Affordable Housing Programs.
The 2011 production drew around 1,150 guests and raised approximately $150,000. As a result of last year’s fundraising efforts, the nonprofit provided 7,413 nights of shelter, 1,178 days of utility assistance, 1,620 days of transportation and medical and dental assistance to more than 500 households.
The next “Ribbon of Life” spectacular is set to return to The Smith Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

An official press announcement and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday morning, June 27 at The Palazzo to celebrate the arrival of The ARTY 2013 in Las Vegas. Preciding over the event was Professor John Dishman, CEO & Founder of the ARTY. The first global open art competition and art show event, with the largest cash prizes in history and the most engaging public platform ever known, will take place at The Venetian | The Palazzo Las Vegas and Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas from April 18 through April 21, 2013.
Designed to set new standards in art events and culture, the 4-day public event will immerse attendees in a multidiscipline, experiential journey of discovery. The Arty® will gain quick acclaim as the most unique and rewarding international competition and show in the world, with the greatest appeal to public participants and independent artists ever offered. Planned as an annual event in Las Vegas and in China, The Arty events will reach millions among many diverse cultures. The Arty sets out to bring about global awareness of the role of art in our culture and to stage a modern day renaissance.
The Arty will also gain quick acclaim as the most unique international competition ever developed or offered. The world’s top independent visual artists will be showcased, each competing for one of ten $100,000 awards, selected by a unique balance of public choice and by renowned judges. It will feature the greatest odds of winning, with equal share. More than $500,000 will be awarded in art grants and scholarships on behalf of The Arty Scholars, a nonprofit organization serving students and the educational community. Over 70,000 people are expected to visit The Arty’s many segments, including the international public art fair and expo, fashion and special events, educational workshops, and the Awards Gala highlighting the art competition and scholarship winners.

On behalf of the Las Vegas Hospitality Association (LVHA), its president, Bryan Kroten surprised Coach DAVE RICE, head coach of the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels, with a $500 check for his new foundation to help autism. As parents of a son with autism, Rice and his wife Mindy, started the Dave Rice Foundation, a non-profit, tax exempt organization dedicated to the education and support of health initiatives including developmental disorders such as autism, and other charitable causes.“One of the goals of LVHA is to be a leader in philanthropic gifts and scholarships to assist the Southern Nevada community,” said Kroten, “and Coach Rice’s foundation is a most worthy cause.
”After performing for nine months at the casino resort, Pat DiNunzio frontman of the 80's rock band, The Smithereens, closed his show “CONFESSIONS OF A ROCK STAR” at the Riviera on Monday night, June 25.
PHANTOM - THE LAS VEGAS SPECTACULAR celebrated its 6th year anniversary and 2614 performances at the Venetian on Tuesday night, June 26. The iconic musical will end its run in the extraordinary custom built theatre on September 2, 2012. On Thursday night, June 28, 31 year old MICHAEL "THE GRINDER" MIZRACHI of Miami became the first two-time winner of the $50,000 buy-in Poker Players Championship at the Rio in the World Series of Poker, earning him $1.45 million. The event, considered the tournament's second most-coveted title after the Main Event, drew a field of 108 competitors. Mizrachi, who won the event in 2010, collected his third career World Series of Poker individual event championship bracelet, bringing his career earnings at the tournament to almost $7 million over 29 in the money finishes.

Due to overwhelming response, legendary comedian and impersonator Rich Little has announced that his show “JIMMY STEWART & FRIENDS” has been extended through the summer at LVH – Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. The one-man show will run through August 22, 2012. “Jimmy Stewart & Friends” is performed 8:30 p.m. Saturday – Wednesday at the Shimmer Cabaret inside the LVH.

This July 4-9 pastry chefs, culinary professionals and students from around the world will be gathering at the Red Rock Resort for the 15th annual AMORETTI WORLD PASTRY FORUM AND CHAMPIONSHIP, the most coveted championship event in the pastry industry. From July 4 through July 8, industry leaders in the world of pastry will lead forums and teach classes on making gelato, cake decorating, chocolate making, interesting flavor combinations, how to start your own bakery and more. Beginning on July 8, following the forums, the World Pastry Team Championship will commence as International teams of three representing China, Japan, Netherlands, Mexico, Morocco, South Korea and The United States spend 13 hours to complete sugar and chocolate sculptures that fall under this year’s theme of Astrology/Horoscopes. The teams will be judged by a panel of experts on artistry, technical merit, work ethic, hygiene and degustation. The awards ceremony on July 9 will be followed by a cocktail reception and a gala dinner honoring the winners. Anyone who arrives to the pastry team championship in a chef’s jacket will receive complimentary admission to watch the event.

Paula arrived with her beau and her parents, "Extra" anchor Terri Seymour and 30 guests to the Asian bistro where they took over an area on the hotspot’s 2nd floor overlooking the signature Buddha.
Earlier in the day Abdul along with a couple dozen of her closest friends, commemorated the occasion by soaking up some sun at Azure, The Palazzo Las Vegas’ luxury pool.Also spotted at TAO’s Worship Thursday was soccer star Steven Gerrard, captain of Liverpool’s Premier League club and the England National football team, treating his girlfriend to a birthday celebration.

One of the fastest rising emcees on the music scene, Alabama rapper Yelawolf, performed at Ditch Fridays at Palms Casino Resort’s Palms Pool & Bungalows.
Joining the Ditch Fridays dayclubbers for the show was Carson Kressley, Joey Fatone, Sabrina Bryan and the rest of the Dancing With the Stars, LIVE in Las Vegas cast.
Emmy-winning television star and celebrity stylist Carson Kressley, former *NSYNC star Joey Fatone, member of the multi-platinum recording act The Cheetah Girls Sabrina Bryan, and a large group of fellow cast members and friends were there celebrating Iveta Lukosiute’s birthday. Lukosiute is a World Champion Professional Dancer and was one of the top 20 dancers in 2011 on FOX’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ TV series. The sexy group of dancers showed off their skills in a Palms Pool cabana and did stunts in the pool while posing for pictures with fans and enjoying the Yelawolf performance.
