Comic Legend Marty Allen's 90th Birthday Celebration

Legendary comedian Marty Allen is amazing!   He just turned 90 years old and is still making audiences laugh with his brand of humor.  In fact, the little guy with the wild hair is still as funny and sharp as when he was half his age. By the looks of it, Marty, who resides in Las Vegas, has no plans of retiring anytime soon. And why should he, when he is having so much fun and so are his audiences.

Given these facts, there was plenty of reason to honor the beloved entertainer with a 90th birthday celebration Saturday afternoon, March 24 inside the Louie Anderson Theatre at Palace Station.  The event was held prior to his 4 p.m. show where he shared the stage with his wife of 28 years, talented singer/pianist Karon Kate Blackwell who doubles as Marty's straight woman.

The festivities were hosted by Louie Anderson in front of a packed theatre of fans and friends including former burlesque queen, Tempest Storm.  Mayor Carolyn Goodman and husband, Oscar, the former Mayor were on hand to present Marty with the “key to the city” as Marty's wife looked on. “Everyone in Las Vegas loves you.  Hope they are paying you lots of money.  If not, this opens up all the slots in all the casinos”, Oscar Goodman, said jokingly after handing Marty the key. Marty responded in jest, “I voted for you so many times. I went from one booth to another”. On a more serious note, he  added, “It is a great honor and I sincerely appreciate it. It could not be more wonderful receiving (the key) from both of you. I have been an ardent fan".

Also joining Marty on stage was comedy magician Penn Jillette (half of Rio headliner's, Penn &Teller), who said his real, untamed, frizzy hair was “inspired” by Marty. “If I had a son, he would look like this,” Penn said referring to himself as he stood towering alongside the “man of the hour”. He then went on to say, “Having grown up in a small town in Massachusetts, one of the happiest moments in my life was seeing Marty's show. Afterwards, he told me a really filthy joke. I then realized I was actually in show business. I met Marty Allen.”

To top off the celebration a birthday cake was brought onto the stage.  There were only three candles on top, each representing thirty years for which Marty said,  “Represents my past, present and future.”Before the cake was cut and slices given to everyone in attendance, Louie asked Marty about his youthful, positive attitude to which he replied, “I go out and enjoy what I am doing.  When the audience says “I had a ball”, that is all I want."
