Before entering Sushi Samba and its boutique nightclub Sugarcane, an array of celebrities arrived on the “orange” carpet for photo opportunities. Among those in attendance for the exciting evening were cast members of “Jersey Boys”, Magician Penn Jillette, boxer B.J. Flores, actor Simon Rex, rap artist Mickey Avalon, and the entire cast of "Entourage" including Jerry Ferrara, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier and Kevin Dillon. They, along with all the invited guests, feasted on an array of items from Sushi Samba’s popular Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian menu including: Taquitos, variety of a sushi selection/samba rolls and Sea Bass/Filet Mignon from the tasty Robata Grill. Adrian Grenier specifically loved the Chu-Cumber Martini, one of the many signature drinks Sushi Samba offers. The Entourage cast also drank sake selections throughout the evening. Some of their favorite desserts were the Mochi, Rosca Doughnuts and the Fruit Taquitos.

After dining inside the restaurant, the cast moved over to Sugarcane where they ordered club vodka sodas, beer and Patron. Kevin Dillon and Jerry Ferrara were rockin' out to the eclectic music from performer and rap artist, Mickey Avalon, who was the special musical guest that evening. Rapping alongside Avalon was actor Simon Rex.

Nevada Screen Actors Guild Celebrates 75th Anniversary
On Saturday evening September 20 Las Vegas Women in Film hosted a Gala Celebration at Dream Vision Studios in Las Vegas in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Nevada Screen Actors Guild ( SAG, a branch of the largest labor union representing working actors) with a portion of the evening's proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Las Vegas. The festivities included comedian and legendary Las Vegas icon, Cork Proctor as host/emcee, swing music provided by the Arnie Webster Band, a buffet and beverages, a silent auction, and items to be raffled off, including tickets for various Las Vegas shows including the Scintas, Lance Burton, and Menopause.
Former Lt. Governor Lorraine Hunt Bono, a member of Women in Film, appeared on stage and spoke about how the organization is helping to promote motion picture production in the state of Nevada. Senator Joe Heck was also in attendance and he read a proclamation declaring September 20th Screen Actors Guild Founders Day in the state of Nevada.
Since the evening’s theme was SAG Then & Now, guests were advised to dress up as their favorite movie star or film character of the 1930's for the event in which the atmosphere suggested an old time Speakeasy, starting with a door that had an open slot where each guest had to give their secret password for admittance into the large main room filled with round dining tables and a stage.

On the walls surrounding the large room were large posters with photo images of every National President of the Screen Actors Guild throughout the years, beginning with Ralph Morgan in 1933 up to Alan Rosenberg, who has held the post since 2005.

Everywhere you looked there were flappers, gangsters and their molls, thugs with machine guns, and men and women adorned to the hilt in snazzy clothes of the by gone era, as well as Madame Tussauds wax figures, and a table set up with a fortune teller (Angela Kay) dispensing psychic predictions for those interesting in knowing their future. Also roaming among the crowd were several look-a-likes of celebrities from the past to the present including Janet Valentine as Marilyn Monroe and her husband Rock as Alice Cooper, Nancy Abercrombie as Mae West, and Leigh Christiansen as Phyllis Diller, just to name a few.

Seated nearby me at another table was a very dashing looking mature man that looked remarkably like the late legendary actor Douglas Fairbanks Jr. Upon introducing myself, Jim Hodge told me a little about his long career as a singer/actor. In 1958 he performed with Betty Gable at the Desert Inn when she opened her act there. Most recently he has performed with the Encore Dancers, a group of talented, mature (55+), beautiful women and he has appeared on the big screen in movies such as in Oh, God You Devil and Rocky IV. From what I perceived from our conversation, the handsome senior citizen showed no signs of retiring from the business he appears to love.

Wednesday, September 24 Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens revealed a sensational harvest display for the colorful fall season. The autumnal exhibit, accented with golden, scarlet and amber hues, features a towering 35-foot-tall cider mill powered by a gentle stream. Close by, a 25-foot-tall whimsical apple tree comes alive and expresses warm greetings and well wishes to passersby. Meanwhile, a 10-foot-tall Ent, a mythical tree made of recycled paper and wood, sits perched near an enchanting moss-covered walkway welcoming guests with a sweet smile. Steps away, guests are invited to leisurely stroll through a picturesque archway of lush vines and evergreen shrubs surrounded by a bountiful harvest of bright orange colossal pumpkins, ranging from 350 to 850 pounds. Donny and Marie Headline at the Flamingo Las Vegas
America’s favorite brother and sister duo, Donny and Marie Osmond recently opened as headliners of their much-anticipated variety show aptly titled “Donny and Marie” inside the Flamingo Las Vegas, and I, along with other members of the media, was invited to see them last Thursday night.
This is the first time in 29 years that Donny and Marie have performed an extended engagement at a Las Vegas venue. I can say, whole heartedly, it is great to have them back, at least for a while, now that they’ve signed a contract for a six month gig at the strip casino/resort.
It is hard to believe their show biz career spans over 40 years. Donny told the audience he was just 18 years old and Marie was 16 when they first performed in Las Vegas. Now, at 50, the youthful looking grandpa is as handsome as ever and sister Marie, having recently lost over 40 lbs. looks beautiful, shapely, and fabulous in each and every one of her glittery and gorgeous costume changes.
As for their 90 minute production, it is sharp, fast paced, and totally entertaining from start to finish. Backed by musical director Jerry Williams’ nine piece band, and eight vivacious, talented dancers, their show has everything - singing, intricately choreographed dancing, humor, video screens with clips that trace their careers, audience interaction, and their signature back and forth banter laced with affectionate digs, that was a staple of their 70’s TV show.

I always knew Donny and Marie were talented, but you really need to see them in person to appreciate them as performers. This dazzling production produced by Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans and Chip Lightman of GansLight Entertainment is just the ticket, one that celebrates Donny and Marie, crowd pleasing entertainers, through and through. Put this on your must see list. I’m willing to bet, if you aren’t already a fan, after seeing this show you will be.

On Thursday, Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. “Hawaiian Tropic Zone” inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood held a beauty pageant with over 30 young women strutting their stuff in cocktail dresses and bikinis in hopes of winning the title, “Miss Hawaiian Tropic Zone Las Vegas” In the end, Denay Thompson took home the crown and official title. In addition, she was awarded $1,500 and a trip for two to New York City. The runner-up received $1,000 while $500 was awarded to the third-place contestant. Winners were determined by a panel of judges including Randy and Kim Couture, Playboy talent scout Lorris Baker, Miss Washington 2007 Elyse Umemoto and Dr. Samir Pancholi of Cosmetic Surgery of Las Vegas.”

Starting on September 26, all four Coast Casino properties—Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall, Suncoast Casino and Hotel, The Orleans Casino and Hotel and Gold Coast Casino and Hotel - are participating in the “Pumpkin Patch Pick” promotion, which allows 32 lucky players a shot at winning $1 million. Friday, October 3rd Nevada's largest Halloween festivity, Stagecoach Depot’s Haunted Corn Maze, Opens in Glendale, NV, a 35-minute drive north of North Las Vegas off of I-15. The event which runs thru October 31 features a humongous corn maze in the crop circle style of a fire truck and ends with a barbeque and entertainment. Admission price is $12 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under. On Oct. 24 there will be an outdoor bar and "Rock Star Karaoke" by Myke and Miranda. The band Evenflow will play on Halloween night. Bring a can of food to donate to the poor and receive a dollar off admission prices. For the 15th year, a medieval kingdom will take over Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road, with lavishly costumed knights, knaves, fine ladies and wenches as Clark County Parks and Recreation presents the annual Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival, Oct. 10-12. The three day festivities will include concerts on Saturday and Sunday and more than 50 shows per day featuring entertainment with costumed performers along with historical re-enactments, jousting tournaments, medieval pageantry and more than 100 artisans to demonstrate and sell their wares. Authentic food, from fish and chips to an English feast, will be available as well as beer and ales for adults with proper identification. Wearing a grey cashmere summer sweater and blue jeans, Olsen attended the rousing performance with boyfriend Justin Bartha. The couple is in town as Bartha films scenes for his upcoming movie, “The Hangover,” which is set in Las Vegas. Friday, October 3rd Nevada's largest Halloween festivity, Stagecoach Depot’s Haunted Corn Maze, Opens in Glendale, NV, a 35-minute drive north of North Las Vegas off of I-15. The event which runs thru October 31 features a humongous corn maze in the crop circle style of a fire truck and ends with a barbeque and entertainment. Admission price is $12 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under. On Oct. 24 there will be an outdoor bar and "Rock Star Karaoke" by Myke and Miranda. For the 15th year, a medieval kingdom will take over Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road, with lavishly costumed knights, knaves, fine ladies and wenches as Clark County Parks and Recreation presents the annual Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival, Oct. 10-12. On Wednesday, September 24, 2008 Lance Armstrong checked into the Presidential Suite at The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino and enjoyed a late dinner at Wolfgang Puck’s Cut. On Thursday morning, Lance greeted fellow cycling friends Tyler Phinney (finished 7th in the individual pursuit during the 2008 Summer Olympics), Davis Phinney (1984 Olympic Bronze Medal in the Men’s 100K Team Time Trial; father to Taylor), and Eddie Merckx (often regarded as the greatest and most successful cyclist of all time) in his Presidential Suite.
Thursday afternoon (Sept. 25) Amy Adams, actress from the NBC hit show, Chuck, was spotted having lunch at Spago inside the Forum Shops at Caesars.
Spotted dining at LAVO on Thursday evening were celebrity hair colorist Kim Vo and Scott Mechlowicz, most known for his leading roles in the comedy EuroTrip and the dramas Mean Creek and Peaceful Warrior. After dinner they adjourned upstairs to the nightclub.
Foo Fighters, currently the biggest rock band in the world, are staying at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to perform two sold out shows in The Joint. Thursday night, band members and their families enjoyed dinner at Nobu inside the Hard Rock before hitting the stage at The Joint for what turned out to be one of their most memorable shows. At one point, spotting Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul in the balcony, lead singer Dave Grohl pointed him out and told the audience how Paul influenced his music, and then dedicated a song to him. After ripping through a solid 2 hour show, the band retreated to the Penthouse suite for some downtime. Friday afternoon, the band was spotted relaxing at the Beach Club in two cabanas enjoying their rock star life with family, friends and poolside massages before setting up for another sold out rock show.

Friday evening, Musician Pat Smear of The Germs and Foo Fighters joined Nate Mendel, Foo Fighters’ bassist, inside the new rock lounge Wasted Space at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The duo was spotted following the second sold out show that the Foo Fighters played inside The Joint. In addition, actor and comedian Drew Carey was spotted having dinner at Mr. Lucky’s with a friend.
