Couples Exchange Wedding Vows at The Venetian During Rock ‘n Roll Las Vegas Marathon

Nearly 60 couples running The Rock ‘n Roll Las Vegas Marathon on Sunday morning, December 5 made a pit stop at The Venetian to exchange or renew their vows amidst the romantic gondolas and picturesque Doge’s Palace Bridge. The 26-mile marathon kicked-off at 7 a.m. with more than 30,000 runners participating.

When the GRAMMY nominations were announced on Wednesday, Dec. 1 six nominations came from music recorded at the Palms Casino Resort’s state-of-the-art Studio at the Palms. The 2011 GRAMMY nominations include: Album of the Year – Teenage Dream/Katy Perry; Best Female Pop Vocal Performance – Teenage Dream/Katy Perry; Best Pop Vocal Performance – Teenage Dream/Katy Perry; Best Female R&B Vocal Performance – Everything to Me/Monica; Best R&B Vocal Album – Still Standing/Monica; Best Contemporary R&B Album – Raymond V Raymond/Usher. This year’s GRAMMY awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 13.


A crowd gathered in front of Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino during the NASCAR Victory Lap on Thursday, Dec. 2. Featuring the top 12 NASCAR Spring Cup Series drivers from the 2010 season, NASCAR Victory Lap started at Miracle Mile Shops and provided fans the chance to see the drivers up close and personal as well as experience the traditional feel of a start line.

San Diego native Josh Cox won the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon on Sunday, December 5. He finished with an unofficial time of 2:25:06. Dorota Gruca of Poland, who was celebrating her 40th birthday, was the women's winner coming in at an unofficial time of 2:44:38. The race started is in the northbound lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard, at the Dewey Street intersection, headed downtown for the first six miles, hitting a few side streets, then moved to the southbound lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard before reaching the finish line at Mandalay Bay.

Scott Bauhs of Mammoth Lakes, CA won the Rock n' Roll Las Vegas half-marathon in a time of 1:02:38.26.

Three time Olympian Jen Rhines was he first woman to finish the half marathon in a time of l:14:56.

Thanks to a $10,000 donation from the Sands Foundation, students at Elbert B. Edwards Elementary School will enjoy state-of-the-art computer equipment to replace the 50 worn-out but badly needed computers that were deemed “Beyond Economical Repair” and removed from the school. The Sands Foundation will work with the Elbert B. Edwards Elementary School throughout the year in an ongoing effort to boost classroom performance.

The Shade Tree is hosting the third annual Women of the World Gala December 11, 2010, 6 p.m. at the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas.  This year The Shade Tree will be honoring former First Lady Dema Guinn for her continued support and untiring commitment to the organization. The theme for the evening is Global Celebration, Local Dedication, representing the unspoken culture of kindness that women represent, no matter what socio-economic background or heritage they come from. To spread the message of global celebration the evening’s festivities will feature special performances by local world culture groups. In addition, there will be live entertainment provided by the Nevada School of the Arts as well as a silent auction to raise proceeds for The Shade Tree.

Proceeds from the event will go toward The Shade Tree charity who’s endless dedication provides safety and shelter for battered women and children, victims of domestic violence, victims of elder abuse, victims of street violence, female veterans, homeless women and children, and the physically disabled.  The Shade Tree is the largest shelter of its kind in the state and is the only shelter that is accessible 24 hours.  The Shade Tree is dedicated to help find employment and housing for their victims.


Santa Claus is making an appearance at The Silverton Casino Lodge in a whole new environment…the resort’s 117,000  gallon aquarium! The Santa will be posing underwater the first three weekends in December from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day - Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5, Saturday, Dec. 11 and Sunday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 18 and Sunday, Dec. 19, offering guests and families around the valley a chance to get creative with their yearly Christmas photos.

The 100th birthday of Louis Prima, the legend and “Big Daddy” of Swing, will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 7 at 6:30 p.m. on 1st Street Stage at the Fremont Street Experience. Louis Prima Jr. will commemorate his father’s life by performing some of his dad’s legendary songs such as “Just a Gigolo – I Ain’t Got Nobody,” “Old Black Magic,” “Buona Sera” and many more that will take audience members back to the big band era and his father’s memorable performances.  Following Louis Prima Jr., local cover band Swingin’ Pedestrians will also perform from 8-11 p.m.

Las Vegas legend Clint Holmes, along with his wife Kelly Clinton and sister Gayle Steele, return to the Suncoast Showroom to perform songs of the holiday season December 17, 18, and 19. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. each evening. Tickets start from $29.95, plus tax and convenience fees.

International Superstar recording artist Sisqó will join the cast of the sizzling adult revue FANTASY for a limited engagement this holiday season at Luxor Hotel and Casino. The multi-award winning artist will guest star in the production Monday, December 13 through Saturday, December 25, performing his Billboard chart-topping hit, “Thong Song.”

LAVO and Eduardo Cordova joined forces to benefit AFAN in honor of World AIDS Day.  Laura Croft and Josh Strickland both had red on their outfits and donned a red ribbon to commemorate the day, and LAVO donated several thousand dollars to the cause. After dining at the Italian eatery Croft and Strickland headed up to the nightclub where they danced the night away to the sounds of DJ Lisa Pittman.  The duo climbed atop the go go box to show off their moves and hit the center dance floor to mingle with the crowd.

Thursday afternoon, December 2,

ESPN baseball analyst and former MLB pitcher, Rick Sutcliffe with his wife and two friends enjoyed the cool November weather on the patio at Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina.

DJ Lance Rock from the world famous show Yo Gabba Gabba stopped by Simon at Palms Place for lunch. Chef Kerry Simon stopped by the table to say hello.

Holly Madison, star of Peepshow and the hit reality series Holly’s World, held an early birthday celebration at TAO and LAVO.  The stage and screen star turns 31 on December 23 and decided to celebrate a few weeks in advance.


She started the party with an early dinner in the private dining room at LAVO.  Friends including Bridget Marquardt, Laura Croft, Angel Porrino, Josh Strickland and new beau Jack Barakat.

After dinner Holly raced over to perform in Peepshow before heading back to continue the party at TAO.  More friends, including Playmate Jayde Nicole joined for the late night celebration.  The group made their way to a sky box overlooking the club, and upon Holly’s arrival event partner Hpnotiq sent the guest of honor a magnum bottle of the liqueur via TAO’s bottle fairy, who flew over the dance floor.


Holly got on the mic, shouting out to the crowd, “What’s up Las Vegas?”  She then thanked TAO, Hpnotiq and all of the club goers for the celebration.


Holly was surprised with a three tiered Rapunzel cake from Gimme Some Sugar, which arrived to the sky box accompanied by the Holly’s World TV series theme song.  The surprises continued as Hpnotiq presented a $1000 check in her name for the Lied Animal Shelter, one of Holly’s favorite causes.  A birthday isn’t complete without presents and TAO continued the gift giving, presenting Holly with a diamond studded heart shaped necklace from Simon G jewelers.

Friday night, December 3…

Gary Matthews Jr., son of Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Gary Matthews and Major League Baseball free agent, dined at N9NE Steakhouse . Matthews was joined by Jerry Hairston Jr., MLB utility player.  

Rachel Uchitel, nightclub manager, hostess and TV correspondent, also dined at N9NE Steakhouse with a friend.

Surrender musical director and resident DJ Steve Aoki returned to the Encore hot spot Aoki’s House and to celebrate his birthday. The DJ, who turned 33 earlier in the week, was surprised with a turntable cake before spinning for the packed crowd.

The party continued at Blush MMA fighter Stephan Bonnar celebrated his win over Igor Pokrajac and The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale.  Joined by Punkass and Skrape from TapOut, Bonnar and the crew danced on the VIP banquettes and took pictures with fans all night long.
