Mayor Goodman Signs Contract to Play with Las Vegas Locomotives

Mayor Oscar Goodman joined the United Football League’s Las Vegas Locomotives (Locos) team as a Tight End with a special contract signing ceremony on Friday, October 1 at 4:00 p.m. on the 3rd Street Stage Fremont Street Experience to commemorate this moment Mayor Oscar Goodman was presented with an official Locos Jersey while his new coach, Jim Fassel, teammates and Locos cheerleaders welcomed him to the football team.

“I want to thank the Locos for giving me a chance, I don’t know if I’ll be much help on the field, but I can definitely teach them how to make a good martini for the concession stand,” Mayor Goodman said. “I did play some high school and college football, but that was so long ago that I think we were wearing leather helmets,”

“This was truly a shock; the Mayor signing a contract with the Locos was the last thing anyone expected. We want to support a true champion of downtown in any way possible, so when he asked that the official ceremony happen at Fremont Street Experience we couldn’t say no,” stated Jeff Victor, president of Fremont Street Experience. “We wish him luck and I look forward to seeing him on the field.”

“I’ve always admired the mayor and I’m grateful for the partnership with the city. I just hope he passes his physical,” said Fassel. “If he passes his physical he can be a valuable asset to our team.”

Goodman is excited about having professional football in Las Vegas. “It’s great to have a professional football franchise calling Las Vegas home, and I encourage all of the citizens here to come out and show their support for the Locos,” added Goodman.

After the ceremonial contract signing, fans were invited to stay at Fremont Street Experience for Fan Experience at the “Experience.” Coach Jim Fassel and players signed autographs, take pictures, and interact with the crowd. Additionally, The Locos’s cheerleading squad LocoMotion was on site to present a special performance. Merchandise and tickets to upcoming games were also available for purchase at the event.


Actress Tiffani Thiessen with husband Brady in tow & Celebrity Designer Lonni Paul of HGTV “Design Star” celebrated the launch of PetitNest at AZURE Luxury Pool at The Palazzo Sunday evening, October 10. Guests at the event dined on Polenta with Prosciutto, roasted peppers with chevre cheese on pita bread and Beef tenderloin on garlic croutons. American Lung Association is lending a hand to Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) clients seeking assistance in breaking the health-threatening habit of smoking with its “Freedom from Smoking” no-cost program.The FREE classes are conducted at the AFAN office located at 701 Shadow Lane, Ste. 130 from 3 – 5 p.m. every Friday now through Nov. 19. The 7-week program is lead by trained AFAN facility members and volunteers who speak to participants in intimate group settings, providing them support and professional knowledge on how to quit smoking. Participants will be introduced to key stages of behavior change, including: preparation phase (laying the foundation for success), quit day (affirming the decision to quit) and maintenance phase (providing skills and support to stay smoke-free). The Marnell family is bringing their Italian tradition back to the M Resort Spa Casino with the second annual Italian Festival featuring two days of Italian food, fun and entertainment for the whole family. The Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct.23 and Sunday, Oct.24 from 11a.m. to 9 p.m. poolside at the Villaggio Del Sole. Paid admission includes choice of one select beverage. New this year, the Festival will highlight Villaggio Del Sole's Main Stage. The Nevada Conservatory Theatre at UNLV opens Ted Tiller’s “Count Dracula,” directed by David Ivers, at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 29 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. “Count Dracula,” an exciting, thrilling, and sometimes humorous version of the classic story of a suave vampire whose passion is sinking teeth into the throats of young women, is based on Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. Performances are October 29, 30, November 4, 5, and 6 at 8 p.m. and October 31 and November 7 at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 and on sale at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office. Special rates are available for senior citizens; students; military; handicapped; UNLV students, faculty and staff; and groups of 15 or more.


The UNLV Performing Arts Center welcomes the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra with conductor Pavel Kogan and violinist Jennifer Koh, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 30 as part of the Charles Vanda Master Series. The program includes Tchaikovsky Competition winner Koh performing Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, as well as orchestra performances of Pictures at an Exhibition and Capriccio Italien.

The Crown Theater, located inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino will be the new home of the longest running musical show featuring the legendary groups, The Platters, The Cornell Gunter Coasters and The Marvelettes, beginning Monday, Nov. 1, 2010. The Kevin Smith SModcast and ‘Evening With’ shows planned for Nov. 12 and Nov. 13, 2010 at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort have been postponed. DJ Vice, resident DJ at TAO on Saturdays and LAVO on Sundays kicked off an early birthday celebration. The acclaimed DJ who turned 32 on Wednesday, October 13 took his usual place in the DJ booth and provided the playlist for his own party with special guest DJs Echo, Ross One, Crooked, Tony Arzadon and Gusto taking turns. Las Vegas’ newest Strip headliners the Jabbawockeez joined in the celebrations, treating the crowd to an impromptu dance off in the middle of the club.

Chart-topping artist Ne-Yo returned to his hometown of Las Vegas to celebrate his 31st birthday. He kicked-off the festivities with a birthday party at Tryst Nightclub inside Wynn Las Vegas. Before entering the hotspot, he stopped on the red carpet to pose for pictures as hundreds of fans gathered around.

Inside the club, the artist and his large entourage of close friends and family took over three of Tryst’s VIP tables. Surprise guest and good friend Snoop Dogg arrived later to join the celebration.

Friday night Kim Kardashian celebrated her 30th birthday at TAO Las Vegas with FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS, the most anticipated new video game of the year. Kardashian, who will officially enter her 30’s on October 21st arrived with family, friends and cameras from her hit reality show in tow, returning to TAO for the festivities for the second year in a row.

Kim arrived on the red carpet with sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian Odom. Mom Kris Jenner and brother Rob Kardashian were by her side, as were friends La La Vazquez, Brittny Gastineau, “Spin Crowd” star Jonathan Cheban, Kelly Rowland, rapper Trina and Joe Francis.

The group took over the private dining room at TAO for a feast of Asian specialties from the kitchen. Of course it is not a birthday without presents and TAO wanted to give Kim a special gift, a pair of Diamond Everlon earrings.

Blogger Perez Hilton joined at the end of dinner, bringing along his mother, who was also celebrating her birthday. Perez introduced his mom to Kris Jenner and they shared a hug.

After dinner they ascended to a VIP skybox in the nightclub, overlooking the packed club. Fans gathered below, snapping pictures of the famed family. Kim got on the mic and asked the crowd, “What’s up Las Vegas? Are you ready to party? “ She then thanked FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS and her fans for helping her celebrate. Kourtney and Khloe also hyped the crowd just before Kim was surprised with a cake from Gimme Some Sugar and family and friends toasted with champagne.

The party then moved down to TAO’s dance floor where DJ Reach kept the party going and Kim’s friend, rapper Trina got on the mic, as did Kelly Rowland who wowed the crowd with her #1 hit “When Love Takes Over.”

Also spotted at TAO on Friday was E! Network’s Ben Lyons, who is celebrating his birthday at LAVO Saturday, actor Jesse Metcalf and Olympian Shaun White dined with friends at TAO earlier in the evening.
