Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas Hosts 11th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™ Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas hosted the official 11th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™ ribbon cutting ceremony, presented by the Asian & Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship on Thursday, February 3. To welcome the Year of the Tiger, St. Mark’s Square transformed into a stunning spectacle as city officials and VIPs came together to kick-off the celebration with an honorary ribbon cutting ceremony. Governor Steve Sisolak and First Lady Kathy Sisolak, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony and National ACE Chairwoman Dr. Karen Eng, among others, were there to commemorate the occasion. 

Guests were in for a stunning celebration as city officials and VIPs welcomed everyone with a few opening remarks. Creating a very special moment, Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem, Stavros Anthony, presented a proclamation naming Thursday, Feb. 3, as Chinese New Year Day in the city of Las Vegas. As the events continued, select representatives participated in a traditional eye dotting ritual to awaken the lions and then conducted the official cutting of the ribbon. Bringing the festivities to an end, the lions paraded around the famed Shoppes, while traditional folk dancers performed for the crowd.

Additional recent and upcoming ”happenings” in and around Las Vegas include:

A first-time visitor from Utah tried his luck at The Orleans Hotel and Casino and hit a nearly $250,000 regional linked Pai Gow Poker progressive jackpot on Friday, January 22. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was playing Pai Gow Poker and bet $1 when he hit the rare natural seven-card straight flush, winning him a Pai Gow Poker progressive jackpot of more than $223,000 at 1:46 a.m. The player also placed a fortune bonus side bet of $5 that won him an extra $25,000. In total, the guest won $248,396 during his visit.

Two Las Vegas locals won big at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur, located at 740 S. Decatur Blvd. and Arizona Charlie’s Boulder, located at 4575 Boulder Hwy., with a combined total of $218,931 in winnings on Monday, Feb. 7. At Arizona Charlie’s Decatur, one local player won $191,428 while playing Dollar Storm, while another winner at Arizona Charlie’s Boulder won $27,503 while playing Wicked Wheel.

The new speakeasy bar, THE COUNTROOM LIVE AT FLAMINGO LAS VEGAS, featuring vintage vibes with a modern twist and the melodies of swing and funky jazz music, is now open inside Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse.Guests will be transported back to the “Old Vegas” era at The Count Room Live at Flamingo featuring live performances on Friday and Saturday evenings. The new speakeasy entertainment experience is tucked away in an intimate bar past the steakhouse dining room. The Count Room Live features craft cocktails and savory bites served to the sounds of “Prohibition Pop” with a mix of swing and funky jazz music performed by The Moonshiners.

THE L.A. COMEDY CLUB has cemented its home at THE STRAT HOTEL, CASINO & SKYPOD with a move to a bigger, brand-new DRAGON ROOM. Known as the spot “where comedy comes to party,” the long-running comedy club’s new, custom-built 5,700 square foot showroom adds more than 100 seats with a 270-seat showroom right off the main casino floor and a separate bar and lounge inside the main entrance to enjoy drinks before and after shows.. 95.5 THE BULL'S GUITAR PULL returns to THE CHELSEA at the COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS on March 5. Tickets for the 12th annual event went on sale beginning Wednesday, Feb. 2. The evening will feature an all-star lineup of country music’s biggest stars including Scotty McCreery. Carly Pearce, Parker McCollum, Lauren Alaina, Ray Fulcher, and Laci Kaye Booth, with additional artists to be announced. 

THE NEON MUSEUM'S Artist in Residence, GABRIEL BARCIA-COLOMBO, debuted his exhibition “SIMULATIONS OF THE SACRED” to the public on Friday, Feb. 11. Located at Juhl Las Vegas, the exhibition brings together digital technology, neon, and Mexican folk art to explore themes of reality, technology, and memorialization, creating a series of sculptures inspired by the signs in the Neon Museum’s collection. The exhibit is open for free public viewing at Juhl Las Vegas (353 E. Bonneville Ave #181, Las Vegas, Nev., 89101) Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 12 – 26, noon to 6 p.m. or by appointment. 

BODIESThe Exhibition will recognize both American Heart Month and Black History Month with specially curated displays to raise awareness for heart disease and educate patrons about influential African American medical professionals who have contributed to the advancements of medicine and the medical community. BODIES…The Exhibition will feature a temporary installation spotlighting several prominent medical professionals. Curated displays are shown at the Exhibition now until Feb. 28 at Luxor Hotel and Casino.

Featured doctors include Dr. Alexa Canady, the first African American woman in the U.S. to become a neurosurgeon — specializing in congenital spine abnormalities, hydrocephalus and spinal tumors. Dr. Vivien Theodore Thomas, who was an instructor of surgery at John Hopkins School of Medicine, best known for his historic contribution in the “Blue Baby” operation, saving the lives of those who were struggling with heart complications that caused cyanosis, or oxygen deprivation.  Dr. Richard Allen Williams, a cardiologist who was the first African American from Delaware to attend and graduate from Harvard University and founded the Association of Black Cardiologists in 1974. Dr. Williams is also the author of “The Textbook of Black-related Diseases,” which is widely considered the classic seminal work on the medical status of Black doctors. Dr. Williams touches on the topic of how some cultures are genetically predisposed to having a higher propensity for certain illnesses.

Las Vegas’ longest-running fully-interactive dinner theater experience, MARRIAGE CAN BE MURDER, announces its new residency at THE ORLEANS HOTEL & CASINO inside the newly renovated “The Venue” theatrical performance space,Thursday through Sunday starting February 11, 2022.  "The Venue" is perfectly suited for a dinner-show and will include multiple stages around the space to keep guests totally immersed throughout the evening. Marriage Can Be Murder features the Lieutenant who keeps the show moving with his outlandish audience interrogations and the hostess who delivers perfectly timed comedy. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for seating and the start of salad service. The show starts promptly at 7:00 p.m. and lasts for two hours with two opportunities for mingling moments and bathroom breaks. Ticket Prices start at $78.94 plus tax and fees. All tickets include a 3-course meal and server gratuity.

Marriage Can Be Murder, is celebrating its 22nd year with a special show on Tuesday, February 22nd. On the lucky date of 2/22/22 tickets for the murder mystery comedy will be reduced nearly 75% to $22.22 and there will also be opportunities for free marriage vow renewals after the show.

LIGHT NIGHTCLUB, located at MANDALAY BAY RESORT & CASINO,  adds to its star-studded lineup of the music industry’s top artists with Billboard Music Award-winning rapper IGGY AZALEA set to perform at the nightclub on Saturday, Feb. 19. Other artists scheduled for February include DJ Romeo, Neil Jackson and DJ E Rock on Friday, Feb. 18,  Grandtheft on Friday, Feb. 25 and Bryce Vine on Saturday, March 5, with additional talent to be announced.

Rubber duck-obsessed comedy magician ADAM LONDON returns to the Las Vegas stage this month with a new residency at “The Venue” inside The Orleans Hotel & Casino. Several creative organizations in Downtown Las Vegas are collaborating to present the first-ever ART AFTER DARK, a special after-hours art event in downtown Las Vegas on Thursday, February 24 from 5 – 7 p.m.  Showcasing a variety of talents, mediums and exhibits, ART AFTER DARK is an opportunity to engage with and experience the abundance of artistic talent that exists in Downtown Las Vegas. In an ongoing effort to better assist families and individuals throughout Southern Nevada to overcome barriers and attain self-sufficiency, HELP of Southern Nevada is bringing back its “LOVE TO LUCK” campaign this Valentine’s Day, Monday, Feb. 14 through St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, Mar. 17.The third installment of the “Every $1 Counts” campaign emphasizes that any gift, no matter the size, allows HELP of Southern Nevada to continue their mission of helping others, help themselves.

Friends, family and co-workers alike are encouraged to spread some love and luck with a donation of any stature through the dedicated online portal. Through this initiative, the community can donate to several departments including Shannon West Homeless Youth Center, Workforce Services, Maternal Group Home and more. To commemorate participants’ generous contributions, a heart shamrock will be displayed on HELP of Southern Nevada’s social media channels when a donation is made.

THE FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE OF LAS VEGAS, a nonprofit organization for individuals with special needs, will hold its annual  WALK4FRIENDSHIP LAS VEGAS COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER on Sunday, March 6 to raise awareness and resources to create a more inclusive community in Las Vegas for individuals with disabilities. In addition to the approximately 1-mile walk that starts at the Bet Yossef Community Center, (8551 Vegas Dr.), the event will feature a free community carnival at the Las Vegas Sports Park (1400 N. Rampart Blvd.) with fun for the whole family, including a zip line, trackless train, Ferris wheel, mechanical bull, rock climbing wall, air jumpers, video game truck, petting zoo, and pony rides. The walk and carnival are free and open to the public, although donations are encouraged. Walk participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and will enjoy giveaways, guest celebrity appearances, and free lunch at the carnival. The world-famous CHIPPENDALES have announced that, “Jersey Shore” & “Double Shot at Love” star, VINNY GUADAGNINO will bring his boy next door charm back to their Las Vegas stage for a third residency. The “Keto-Guido’s” six-week engagement will run March 11 through April 10 and will coincide with the iconic, award-winning production’s 20th Anniversary with over 8,000 performances at RIO ALL SUITE HOTEL & CASINO. Chippendales performs nightly at 8:00 p.m., with additional shows on Friday and Saturday at 10:30 p.m. (dark Monday and Tuesday).   Vinny Guadagnino’s limited engagement runs Friday, March 11 through Sunday, April 10 (Friday through Sunday performances). The 2022 HERCULES TIRES WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT (WAC) will return to the ORLEANS ARENA Wednesday, March 9 through Saturday, March 12, bringing action-packed NCAA Division I college basketball matchups. This year marks more than a decade of hosting the WAC Basketball Tournament at the Orleans Arena. Teams competing for the championship title this year include Abilene Christian University, California Baptist University, Chicago State University, Grand Canyon University, Lamar University, New Mexico State University, Sam Houston State University, Seattle University, Stephen F. Tuesday, January 26...

Nas, the Grammy Award winning rapper entrepreneur, paid visit to Eight Lounge inside Resorts World for a tour of the new, luxe cigar and cocktail lounge which features a custom-built walk-in humidor and expansive outdoor terrace with views of the Las Vegas Strip.

In town for the Tobacco Plus Expo, former NFL cornerback Ike Taylor stopped into the lounge with a couple of friends to celebrate his own line of cigars, 10FAHKINE from Howard G Cigars. In addition, NFL Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed, who is also in town for the Tobacco Plus Expo, visited the lounge with Nestor Plasencia of Plasencia Cigars with whom he is developing a cigar blend that will be available at a later date. Later in the evening, Reed and Plasencia were joined by Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller in one of Eight’s private smoking rooms where they smoked Plasencia cigars.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle, his father and some friends stopped by The Barbershop Cuts & Cocktails inside the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas shortly after 11 p.m. 

NFL Hall of Famer Warren Moon arrived at Eight Lounge located in Resorts World Las Vegas was the hotspot for athletes and celebrities.   Spotted were New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara ,Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris, Former Indianapolis Colts great Reggie Wayne, former NFL running back Thurman Thomas Sr, American rapper and producer Lord Finesse, actor Nick Turturro and comedian Russell Peters,  who stars in the upcoming “Clifford the Big Red Dog” film.  Middleweight boxer Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of boxing legend Muhammed Ali, visited the luxe cigar and cocktail lounge throughout the night with his parents, Bob Walsh and Rasheda ALI,  also stopped by the lounge.

American actress Madison Pettis was spotted at lunch at Kassi Beach House, inside the newly reimagined Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.  

Saturday, February 5...

Eight Lounge, located in Resorts World Las Vegas, continues to be the hotspot for athletes and celebrities, as Marshawn Lynch served fans as a guest bartender for the venue, featuring his new tequila, Tromba. In support of the former NFL running back was Najee Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Raiders’ owner Mark Davis and Raiders’ tight end Darren Waller.

 Also spotted in the chic new venue were San Francisco 49ers players Nick Bosa, George Kittle, Kyle Juszczyk, Maurice Hurst Jr., Jaquiski Tartt, Emmanuel Moseley and former 49ers player, and current Indianapolis Colts player, DeForest Buckner. The group later made their way to Gatsby’s Cocktail Lounge, where 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo arrived to party with his teammates.

Comedian Russell Peters and actor Nicholas Turturro once again visited Eight after a visit earlier in the week.

NFL great Reggie Wayne and Arizona Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Simmons were spotted at Eight Lounge.

Vegas Golden Knights right wing Mark Stone and centerman William Karlsson stopped into The Barbershop Cuts & Cocktails, a hidden cocktail and music haven at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, to check out Rook & the Riot’s performance.

Sunday, February 7...

Eight Lounge, located in Resorts World Las Vegas, hosted NFL Hall-of-Famer Charles Woodson for a Pro Bowl viewing party where his bourbon was featured.

Eight also was host to country icon and owner of a private cigar locker housed inside the walk-in humidor, Luke Bryan, who is in town for his nine-show residency at Resorts World Las Vegas. 

Friday, February 11...

Olympic gold-medalist and world class gymnast, Simone Biles was among the sold-out audience who turned up as Wiz Khalifa took over the Drai’s LIVE stage. 

Sunday, February 13...

Headliner Gucci Mane celebrated his 42nd birthday with a concert at Drai's nightclub. Country music superstar Sam Hunt enjoyed the show from his VIP section behind the stage. Gucci was honored on stage with a special Drai’s birthday celebration which included an elaborate birthday cake presented by the Drai’s Dolls.

YouTube star and podcast host Logan Paul was spotted attending the 8 p.m. performance of ABSINTHE at Caesars Palace. Also in attendance, were George Janko and Mike Majlak, co-hosts on Logan Paul’s podcast, “Impaulsive” – who all stopped backstage after the performance for a photo The Gazillionaire.
