Special guest host for the evening's festivities was basketball legend, Shaquille O’Neal who posed for photos on the red carpet accompanied by entertainers and local performers, including the cast of FANTASY. At the party, 500 guests were treated to complimentary drinks including beers and cocktails, an assortment of culinary offerings, and a performance from DJ Bayati.

“BEER PARK is a special place to party in Las Vegas because there are so many different beers from around the world,” said O’Neal. “There’s a great view of the Strip and it’s a great place to hang out in Vegas.”

Since opening in early 2016, BEER PARK amassed many accolades, including “best rooftop bars” in various media outlets including Thrillist, Maxim, Eater and more. Along with incredible views of the Fountains of Bellagio, BEER PARK offers billiards and foosball, as well as oversized yard games, darts, old-school arcade games and more.

A 9,000-square-foot outdoor deck is host to ESPN’s “SportsCenter” and other national broadcasts, showcases views of The Strip and Fountains of Bellagio while the new, 10,000-square-foot indoor bar and grill features living room-style furniture and design. The dynamic bar and grill sets a tailgate party atmosphere with an outdoor, picnic tables and more than 100 beer selections, including 36 beers on draft. Named one of the “Best Rooftop Bars” on the Las Vegas Strip by Thrillist, BEER PARK is a popular gathering place for sports fans and is one of just a few spots in Las Vegas to place bets outside of a sports book.

Problem Gambling Center Honors Founder and Gambling Addiction Pioneer, the late Dr. Robert Hunter

The Problem Gambling Center, which offers hope, recovery and a way forward for thousands of people from all walks of life suffering from a gambling addiction, was officially dedicated and renamed to honor its founder, the late Dr. Robert Hunter, at a special event on June 26. In attendance were members of the community and local leaders as well as the PGC board of directors, past and current clients, staff, and new Executive Director Stephanie Goodman.

Known as the world’s leading gambling addiction specialist, Hunter (1955-2018) founded the Problem Gambling Center (PGC) in 1998 as the first nonprofit gambling addiction center. Helping those with gambling problems in Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world, became the mission of the PGC under Hunter’s direction.

His program at the PGC consists of six weeks of intensive daily counseling, followed by four weeks of weekly sessions, and upon completion one-on-one therapy sessions as long as needed. As a result of his clinical methods, Hunter’s treatment program at the PGC operates with an 80-plus percent success rate for recovery.

Recognizing Hunter’s significant impact, city of Las Vegas Councilman Bob Coffin presented a proclamation from Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman that declared June 26 as Dr. Robert Hunter International Problem Gambling Center Day. It said in part: “Dr. Hunter’s efforts in the area of gambling addiction have assisted individuals and their families both in Las Vegas and internationally. Best wishes to the Center as it continues to offer services and important work in his memory.”

At the event, Connie Jones, board member for the now Dr. Robert Hunter International Problem Gambling Center, echoed the sentiments: ““Dr. Hunter was the world expert on Problem Gambling helping our community through his compassion, understanding and science. We are looking to continue his legacy by alleviating the stigma associated with Problem Gambling and helping as many people as we can who are affected by this debilitating addiction.”

Hunter left a legacy of treating more problem gamblers than anyone in the world. The PGC continues his work and methods to help hundreds of Nevadans every year overcome the often invisible addiction of problem gambling and turn their lives around – regardless of their ability to pay for services. And the PGC helps not only those individuals who have gone through the treatment program, but also the family, friends and employers who are also affected by the actions of the problem gambler. Germany’s Hossein Ensan Wins World Series of Poker Main Event

Iranian-born and longtime German resident Hossein Ensan has closed out a historic 50th running of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) by capturing the world championship in the WSOP Main Event and the gigantic $10,000,000 first place prize and the diamond-encrusted World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

Though he started the tournament on July 5 with just 60,000 in chips, he ended up capturing all 514,140,000 of them, by outlasting the second-largest Main Event field in history – 8,569 entrants.

The $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event is globally recognized as poker’s world championship and this year was a special edition, the 50th running. The event created the second-largest prize pool ever – $80,548,600, of which the final nine players split up more than $30 million of it.

The 55-year-old Ensan becomes the oldest Main Event champion in 20 years, since Noel Furlong won the title in 1999 at age 62. He also becomes the third Iranian-born WSOP Main Event champion and the first in 27 years, joining Mansour Matloubi in 1990 and Hamid Dastmalchi in 1992.

Ensan captured his very first World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet and the top prize in gaming’s richest and most prestigious event after a three-day finale telecast live on ESPN that concluded at 1:24am in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino’s Amazon Ballroom on Wednesday morning, July 17.

From an event that began way back on July 3, 2019 with 8,569 hopefuls who each ponied up the $10,000 entry fee and received 60,000 in starting tournament chips, Ensan ultimately outlasted them all – the second-largest starting field in the 50-year history of the tournament.  The total prize pool up for grabs in the event was $80,548,600.

The event ended with 67 minutes and 56 seconds left in Level 43 of the tournament, which equated to 84 hours, 52 minutes and four seconds of poker play to reach a victor.  In real time though, the event took 10 playing days, spread out over 14 calendar days to become the champion.  When play began on July 3, players started with 60,000 in chips and the blinds were at 100 and 200 with a 200 big blind ante.  When play completed early Wednesday morning at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, blinds were at 2,000,000 and 4,000,000 with the big blind ante at 4,000,000.
