Menopause is such a highly entertaining show with so much to offer guests that it is no suprise that it continues to draw audiences for each performance. Along with its clever, well written script which celebrates, pays tribute, pokes fun at the “changes”, and is ultimately empowering and uplifting, the high energy production features a strong cast of four extremely talented singer/actresses. Jaqueline Holland Wright as the aging soap star, Vita Corimbi as the hippie/earth mother; Lori Legacy as the Iowa housewife, and Lisa Mack as the career woman, are all fantastic in their roles, have great chemistry and beautifully interact with each other as they perform hilarious parodies of hit songs.

I've seen the show numerous times and I can attest, Menopause the Musical, is one of the most entertaining shows in Las Vegas.

Producer Alan Glist, from G4Productions, was in attendance at the anniversary performance and came on to the stage to talk about the show's success and how, through the years, it has raised over $1 million for women's charities, with its sales of Hot Flash fans (that sell for $1 each). Last year, $100,000 was raised for the Susan Koman Foundation in it battles against breast cancer and, he added, in February all proceeds will go to the Marjory Stoneman High School victims fund in Parkland, Florida.

Nightlife mogul, Todd Worz, and Jonathan Fine, owner of FINE Entertainment, envisioned the space based on their mutual appreciation for the roots of Las Vegas, blending classic hospitality with a progressive tavern experience. With the goal of bringing back Frank Sinatra-era class and service, The MINT Tavern pays historical tribute to Las Vegas through namesake revitalization of a celebrated classic hotel and a location that’s a few doors down from the oldest operating steakhouse in town, Golden Steer.

“We meticulously designed both the sign and the space to create an inviting and comfortable lounge that’s both lived in, yet refined,” said Todd Worz, partner of The MINT Tavern. “Inside, guests will find carefully-curated artwork and a thought-provoking drink menu. We want guests to have the feeling that The MINT Tavern has been around for a while, but that they’re still kept on their toes with regularly changing entertainment.”

To kick off the festivities, former Lt. Gov. of Nevada, retired neurosurgeon and collector of unusual Vegas artifacts LONNIE HAMMARGREN was honored with his own SHRUNKEN HEAD. "I just thought we were going out for a drink," Hammargren told his emotional family, friends and fans who gathered in his honor. "It was a total surprise to be included in the shrunken head collection, and it means the world to me."

Hammargren's shrunken likeness was created exclusively for The Golden Tiki's cabinet of curiosities by Smithsonian artist Terry Barr. The head was sculpted over the course of four weeks, referencing photos of Hammargren to ensure physical accuracies. It's the eleventh in a series of celebrity shrunken heads on display at Vegas' iconic Tiki revival bar. Previous shrunken heads include Marky Ramone of The Ramones, Carrot Top, Frank Marino, Robin Leach, Norm Clarke, Claire Sinclair, magician Murray Sawchuck, Vinnie Paul of Pantera, Chris Phillips of Zowie Bowie, and Monti Rock III.

Throughout the night, local guest bartenders served up their twists on Donn Beach classic cocktails in honor of the founder of tiki cocktail culture. Participating bartenders included Anthony Demaria from Campari who served the "Bungle in the Jungle;" Wendy Hodges from Fusion Bar who served the "Pearl Diver;" Adam Rains from Flock & Fowl who served the "Navy Grog;" and Jessica Lee Westergom from The Black Sheep who served the "Zombie."

"Donn Beach is responsible for tiki bars and tiki culture," said Branden Powers, The Golden Tiki's managing partner. "Tonight we pay tribute to a man who continues to inspire us. Cheers to his legacy!"

On Thursday afternoon, February 22, a live reading of MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL SEQUEL, Still Hot! was held at Harrah's Hotel & Casino. Written by celebrated entertainer Clint Holmes and comedian/musician Dennis Blair, the sequel follows the same four ladies including the earth mother/hippie, aging soap opera star, career/power woman and Iowa housewife, as they reunite in Las Vegas for a weekend of fun and adventure. Based on what I experienced from the amazing cast, brilliantly written script, and laugh out loud song parodies, this follow up production is just as relatable, hilarious an entertaining as the original. Producers Alan and Kathi Glist and everyone involved in the creative process have another sure fire hit to open sometime in the near future.

Sunday afternoon, March 4, artist KITOS LUCERO, known as Childhood Cancer Is The Real Boogieman, took over MARVEL AVENGERS S.T.A.T.I.O.N. in Treasure Island and created one-of-a-kind pieces of art with Marlee and Nic, two childhood cancer warriors battling their disease. As each kid narrated their journey and answered questions from Lucero, he represented their answers through paint colors. When the stories were done, the paint was applied to the canvas to create a new story – an abstract painting that evokes the feelings of hope, love, survival, and strength. The kids and their family then spent time having fun in the attraction, escorted by Agent 11 and Spiderman!

One of the final art pieces will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to be auctioned off during their annual gala later this year.

Lucero has made it a mission in life to use his skills in helping to bring awareness to childhood cancer. Using his art and passion, Lucero works throughout the year with “warriors” (those kids fighting, or who have fought childhood cancer), on fundraising projects and awareness events.
