Aid for AIDS of Nevada Celebrates 31st Annual Black & White Party at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

More than 2,500 guests dressed for a cause at Aid for AIDS of Nevada's (AFAN) 31st annual Black & White Party at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on August 21. The event raised more than $130,000 to benefit AFAN's advocacy for those living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Marco and Joanna from Sunny 106.5 kicked off the evening by introducing performances from East Side Riot and Michelle Johnson. Pia Zadora showed her support with a surprise donation of $1,000 through a representative, and Assemblyman Nelson Araujo presented an official proclamation honoring AFAN and the outstanding work they do in the community.

Local entertainers, socialites, and personalities came out in their best black and white for AFAN including longtime supporters Penn & Teller, Chippendales, Pole Show LA, Miss Grand Cuba 2017 Yvette Blaess, the cast of Reverie, Coco Montrese from "Rupaul's Drag Race," Zowie Bowie, Murray Sawchuck, the girls of FANTASY, Jarrett and Raja from "America's Got Talent," the Tenors of Rock, Chloe Crawford from Criss Angel's Mindfreak, Brittany Brooks and Katrina Stuart from female empowerment band Femmology, Hayley and Emily Ferguson from "The Bachelor," Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees, the cast of Frank Marino's Divas, and Paul Hollowell from "Finding Prince Charming."

Hosts Miguel Martinez-Valle and Norma Llyaman, the Duke and Duchess of Decadence for the evening, greeted the crowd and led them in a festive Mardi Gras parade into the "New Orleans Soiree," where guests were treated to samples from Culinary Dropout, Pink Taco, Goose Island Beer Co., MB Steak, Shake Shack, Nobu, Brio Tuscan Grille, Dunkin Donuts, Ninkasi Brewing Company, Stoli Vodka, Kimo Sabe, and Born and Bred American Craft Vodka.

The stage came alive with performances from Human Nature, Frank Marino's Divas, "Rupaul's Drag Race" Adore Delano, Piranha nightclub, BAZ, Miss Behave Game Show, Culture Shock, Pole Show LA, Absinthe's Melody Sweets, Jacinthe Morearty, silk aerialist Brandon Scott, and aerial hoop performer Lyndsi Hardin. The cast of Magic Mike Live also made a surprise appearance as they revealed it all on stage and hosted a meet and greet.

From ball gowns, balloon and showgirl dresses, stilt walkers, and illuminated garments, the highlight of the evening was the over-the-top and barely there fashions. Partygoers also had the chance to look into the future with a fortune teller, get their hair braided with glitter from Kelly Cardenas Salon, and interact in virtual reality using high-tech equipment.

CORDUROY, a bar reminiscent of the throw-back rock ‘n’ roll-style watering holes of the past debuted on Saturday, August 5th bringing an ol’ school type of fun to Downtown Las Vegas. Unmistakably unconventional, Corduroy brings a high-energy, new social scene and takes center stage along the Fremont East Entertainment District via rock ‘n’ roll music, complete with its very own vintage speaker collection turned-art installation. Fun and a whole lot of nostalgic flair went into the design of Corduroy – the interior is a nod to the classic decor of the 70s, while the music and drinks are focused on today’s barhopping connoisseur.

The main bar, outfitted with a chromatic fluid bubble wall, is where bartenders will be serving up American Heritage and craft beers, along with the tastiest versions of classic cocktails. Hungry? Order bar munchies like corndogs and pizza bites from a floor-to-ceiling microwave wall- just like mom used to “make.” Wanna dance? Get down to the high-energy sounds that spanned the decades with a DJ booth framed by a vintage speaker wall– which serves as a functional backdrop and art piece. Corduroy will operate Wednesday through Sunday starting at 4 p.m. ‘til late.

Primm Valley Resort & Casino continues to expand on its remodeling and food & beverage offerings by recently opening PRIMM & PROPER, serving tasty American favorites for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night 24/7. Guests are greeted by a neon sign emblazoned with the phrase "good food, good people good times," before walking into the airy restaurant featuring oversize plush booths, sandstone brick decor and striking red windowpanes.

Just in time for one of the most anticipated fights and football season, the Strip’s only standalone boutique hotel, THE CROMWELL, opened its BRAND NEW SPORTSBOOK with boxing champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Mosley joined Regional President, Eileen Moore, as well as Blake Segal, Caesars Entertainment Senior Vice President of Operations and General Manager of The Cromwell, for a ribbon cutting and placed a commemorative bet on his choice for the August 26th fight.

The Cromwell’s new sportsbook features best-in-the-city technology and picture-quality, as well as a 32-foot-long by 9-foot-tall LED video wall and a 9-foot-by-5-foot LED odds wall with ticker capabilities to see scores and updates from a number of vantage points throughout the casino.

Other recent additions to the The Cromwell (which was recently named a Top 10 “Best US Casino” by the USA TODAY 10 BEST Readers’ Choice) includes more player-friendly game offerings, from single “0” roulette to EZ Baccarat to 100X odds on Craps to 3-2 shoe and double-deck blackjack, making playing at The Cromwell one of the best odds to win big in Vegas.
In addition to the new and enticing table gaming options, The Cromwell has also recently introduced a greater variety of slot games including all the latest and greatest and The Abbey, an all-new high-limit slot area.  A new fast-casual dining option, eatwell, is now open, offering great food round-the-clock, as well as an enhanced bar and lounge, Interlude, with great drinks and free live entertainment.

In what promises to be one of the most anticipated tours of 2018, Global superstar SHANIA TWAIN has announced that she will hit the road next year in support of her new album, NOW. These dates mark Shania’s first tour since “Rock This Country” back in 2015. To commemorate NATIONAL CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH, the CANDELIGHTER CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION OF NEVADA will turn Las Vegas gold this September with its SHINEGOLD CAMPAIGN. The international awareness symbol for childhood cancer is the gold ribbon, serving as a symbol for all forms of cancer affecting children and adolescents. Gold was selected as the ideal choice for childhood cancer awareness because it is a precious metal, and is therefore the perfect color to reflect the most precious thing in our lives—our children.

Throughout September, the city of Las Vegas will shineGOLD to show their support for the many children battling cancer with the following events:

During September, a special Candlelighters doughnut will be featured at all five Krispy Kreme Las Vegas locations, where 50 cents for each special doughnut purchased will be donated back to the organization. The specialty doughnut is a result of a contest, where Candlelighters children were invited to create a recipe for the featured doughnut. Eight children participated, but ultimately the doughtnut created by eight-year-old Candlelighter Gavin Prince, along with his brother Brendan, age four, was selected as the winner.

Gavin, Brendan and their family will create the donut with the Krispy Kreme donut maker on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. at the Krispy Kreme located at 9791 S. Eastern.

To kick off shineGOLD, an illumination event will be held at the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign on Friday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. Clark County Commissioners Steve Sisolak and Susan Brager will help Candlelighters transform the sign’s lightbulbs into gold, as well as present the organization with a proclamation.

Other iconic locations across the valley will also turn gold. Additionally, Candlelighters encourages everyone to wear gold on Friday, Sept. 1 to commemorate the beginning of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Costumes are encouraged.
