Clint Holmes Launches New Residency at Golden Nugget

Singer and consummate entertainer Clint Holmes kicked off the first night of his limited residency inside the Golden Nugget Showroom on May 9.  It was a cause for celebration for several reasons.  Not only was it Holmes' opening night inside the Golden Nugget showroom, it marked his return to the venue where he performed for several years beginning in 1999.  Plus, May 9 also happened to be his 71st birthday.

Among the invited VIP guests in attendance to help him celebrate the opening were Clint's wife, singer/comedienne Kelly Clinton Holmes, entertainer Frankie Moreno, comedy magician Mac King, singer Earl Turner, Righteous Brothers Bill Medley & Bucky Heard, and magic and music duo Jarrett & Raja.

Holmes once again proved to the audience what an amazing and talented performer he is. That said, he couldn't have picked better back up musicians.  His five piece band is comprised of musical director, Christian Tamburr, on piano and vibes, bassist David Ostrem;  drummer Jakubu Griffin; guitarist Pablo Gadda; and saxophonist Rocco Barbato, who are nothing short of excellent, and some of the best musicians in the business.

During his 90 minute show that is part autobiographical, Holmes reflects on his life, paying tribute to his parents (British white mother and American black father), their struggles and their musical influences on him.   While his style leans towards jazz, there isn't any music genre that he can't tackle and make his own.  With a repertoire that ranges from covers of classics, contemporary pop, to, yes, jazz,  the performer lends his own unique style, interpretation and twist to each song, whether it be Adele's “When We Were Young, The Beatles' “She Was Just 17”, Stevie Wonder's “I Wish”, Ray Charles' “I’ve Got a Woman,” or the “other” city that he loves, “New York, New York”.

Holmes is also a talented songwriter. Among the list of songs he performs during the show are original pieces including the title song from his newly released album Rendezvous, which he describes as “smooth jazz”.  One of his compositions, “If Not Now When”, he wrote while undergoing treatment for colon cancer over a decade ago.  Although inspired by his personal experience, the lyrics are so meaningful as to make an impact on everyone.

As a matter of fact, impact is just one of many words to describe what Clint Holmes brings to the stage and on his audiences. He is an extraordinarily gifted showman that commands the stage and attention with both his talent and charisma.  If you haven't yet had the pleasure of seeing him perform in person,  I have to say... if not now when?

You can catch Clint Holmes perform in The Golden Nugget Showroom 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays through August 31.

This was the sixth year that Three Square Board Member, Diana Bennett hosted the event, bringing together fashion and Southern Nevada’s only food bank. Joining an exclusive list of designers who’ve participated in past events, including Herve Leger, Zac Posen and Michael Kors, the designs from Monique Lhuillier’s FW17 collection elevated the evening with her whimsical gowns and designs. The show was set against the backdrop of the Las Vegas Strip just as the sun set on the patio of Ms. Bennett’s home. The entertainment, cuisine, and cocktails were a cherry on top of the $2 million raised in support of food insecure families in Nevada.

The event benefits Three Square Food Bank’s Bag Childhood Hunger campaign, which provides meals to food insecure children in Southern Nevada.
