Surpassing last year’s donation of $200,000, New York-New York will give all proceeds from the event to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, supporting the organization’s mission to find promising cures and treatments for all childhood cancers. Celebrity head-shavers, Las Vegans and visitors gathered as more than 200 shavees shed their locks to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

Highlights from this year’s event include:

·Vassiliadis Elementary School Principal Paul Catania and 30 members of the “Baldrick Boys” team from John W. Bonner Elementary School took turns in the barber chairs and braved a shave, including Team Captain and Founder Trey Lomax. This is the sixth consecutive year the Baldrick Boys have shaved their heads to help raise awareness for childhood cancer

·Cast members from New York-New York’s headlining show, ZUMANITY by Cirque du Soleil shaved their general manager's head and hosted a hairstyle contest where the crowd used donations to vote on the over-the-top hairstyle the show's technician would sport.

·The cast of TENORS OF ROCK graced the crowd with a rockin' rendition of "House of the Rising Sun" while participating as celebrity head-shavers

·ABSINTHE starlet Melody Sweets shaved Las Vegas Review-Journal entertainment writer John Katsilometes’ head. Additionally, Katsilometes’ 51st birthday party contributed to the cause. Instead of gifts, Katsilometes accepted donations for his St. Baldrick’s Day fundraising page, generously donating more than $1,300

·Emcee and former Frankie Valli of JERSEY BOYS Travis Cloer serenaded the crowd with a breath-taking performance of "Stand By Me"

· New York-New York's Coyote Ugly Girls wowed the St. Baldrick's Day crowd with an upbeat line dancing performance before they shaved executives from New York-New York's Food and Beverage Department

·Executive Vice President and General Counsel of MGM Resorts International John McManus was a top donor for New York-New York’s St. Baldrick’s Day event, raising an exceptional $100,000 on his fundraising page for the cause

The Hall of Fame was founded in 2003 to honor past and present residents of Southern Nevada who have made a significant impact in the areas of visual arts, performing arts, and/or architecture. Past inductees include Tony Curtis; Phyllis McGuire; Robert Goulet; The Killers; Liberace; architects Tony Marnell, John Klai, Tom Schoeman, and William Snyder; Penn & Teller; and Siegfried & Roy, among others.

The first Hall of Fame Inductee honored during this year's gala event was Lance Burton, widely considered this century’s greatest stage magician. As magic historian Mike Caveney stated, “Take every magician in the world, line them up and give them each 12 minutes … Lance wins!”  Comedy magician Mac King, who has known Burton since they were 14 years old back in Kentucky, where they were both from, introduced his long time friend to the stage, calling Burton the “best magician to perform in Las Vegas and anywhere in the world”.   Now retired after a 30-year career, Burton currently is working on a number of documentary and narrative film projects.

Gubler, an Emmy award winning actor, is best known for his starring role as the lovable genius Dr. Spencer Reid on TV's hit crime drama Criminal Minds. He is a native of Las Vegas and graduate of the Las Vegas Academy and New York University. The multi-talented Gubler is also a director, having directed eight episodes of Criminal Minds and two music videos for The Killers. And, as an accomplished painter, he is known for his vivid and expressionistic portraits of people, animals, and imaginary monsters. Unable unable to appear in person, Gubler appeared in a video accepting the award saying, “Thank you for the neon and sand that make up my bones. The greatest art experiment (for me) is to be from this town (Las Vegas)”.

A fortuitous exchange with actor Elliot Gould helped launch the career of the towering 6'8” tall, Hollywood stuntman Harris. His big break came in 1971 with the film Dirty Harry, plus additional credits in They Call Me Mister Tibbs, Trader Horn, and the Carol Burnett Show. As president of the Black Stuntmen’s Association, Harris has advocated for African-Americans in the industry for nearly 50 years.  He is now retired and currently resides in Las Vegas.

An accomplished musician with The Kingston Trio, with whom he was featured in hundreds of recordings, and performed with at Carnegie Hall, George Grove returned to school at UNLV, earning a masters of music degree in jazz composition in 2001. Since then, he has written musical and orchestral scores for various artists. Mr. Grove has spent much of his career on the road, devoting his professional career to his passion for American folk music and love of performance. He resides in Las Vegas with his wife, Cindy.

Carol Channing has been a star of international acclaim since her debut on Broadway as Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. A winner of three Tony Awards and a Golden Globe Award, the Oscar nominee also has recorded 10 gold albums during her 70-plus year career. In 2009, Ms. Channing was one of the first legendary ladies of stage and screen to be inducted into the Smithsonian Institution. Because of medical issues, doctors advised her not to travel and so she was not able to be at the event. Legendary impressionist, Rich Little, appearing on video called her a “National Treasure” that everybody loves and accepted the award on her behalf.

Beloved, legendary actress Debbie Reynolds, who was known for her boundless energy and perky demeanor, made memorable turns in films such as  Singin' in the Rain, The Tender Trap, Tammy and the Bachelor, and The Unsinkable Molly Brown for which she received an Academy Award nomination. She entertained us for more than 40 years via film, television, and stage. Taking the stage to accept the award in her honor was Reynold's son, Todd Fisher and his wife, former soap opera actress Catherine Hickland.

This year's inductees have made an indelible impact on the performing arts and are an inspiration to students.  Each honoree has made Nevada richer for their accomplishments and cultural contributions and help ensure that UNLV College of Fine Arts remain one of the nation's top fine arts colleges.

Bellagio’s Conservatory Debuts Japanese-Inspired Spring Display

The Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens has revealed its spring display celebrating Japan’s rich and vibrant culture, featuring traditional elements reimagined in a fresh way, taking visitors on a stunning journey of the senses.  The new display, which was envisioned and brought to life by renowned designer Ed Libby and the Bellagio Horticulture team, offers a refreshing approach to several time-honored Japanese customs.

Visitors enter the Conservatory through a 25-foot Torii Gate adorned in pink and white lotus flowers. Capturing guests' attention as they walk through the entryway is a 35-foot Kabuki character rising from a 60-foot-wide pink lotus flower. Comprised of 5,000 flowers, the majestic Kabuki figure holds a 25-foot-tall Samurai sword, symbolizing power and protection, in one hand, and a 4-foot-wide white pearl, symbolizing prosperity and beauty, in the other. Visible from every vantage point throughout the gardens are two 4-foot cranes, signifying longevity, and 10 vibrant hand-painted butterflies, denoting eternity, suspended in mid-air above the West Bed.

In the North Garden, passersby will encounter a 26-foot-tall Japanese temple, inspired by Kyoto’s famous Kinkaku-ji. Elaborately adorned in gold veneer and built with wood frames, the peaceful place of reflection rests on a shore of tranquil water, located between two intricately designed bird cages. In the South Garden, visitors will find a Japanese tea house nestled among a cherry blossom and bonsai tree. Honoring the traditional Japanese tea ceremony of grace, etiquette and hospitality that dates back to the 9th century, the 12-foot-tall house is made of bamboo and other natural materials, and ornamented with mineral copper accents. Nearby a turtle topiary created with 1,000 fresh cut flowers complements the garden.

“Everything inside the Conservatory pays homage to the vibrant Japanese culture and takes inspiration from Sandro Botticelli’s painting, The Birth of Venus, as well as Kabuki which is a treasured art form in Japan,” said Libby. “I was thrilled when I was asked to design Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens which is such an iconic Las Vegas destination. My event creations generally last for a few hours, so it’s been a true honor to design something that lasts for a few months. This display has allowed me to express myself as an artist in a new way, and took my skill set to a new level.”

For three decades, Ed Libby & Company Events has been designing majestic floral and crystal compositions for prominent recording artists, actors and companies across the United States including the “Wall Street Concert Series” featuring artists like Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, Beyoncé and Kanye West. The company also has created multiple installations for the annual Macy’s Flower Show in Herald Square. Most recently, Libby brought his expertise and artistic touch to MGM National Harbor, a new resort destination located just outside of Washington, D.C., with a series of seasonal displays throughout 2017.

Bellagio’s Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is complimentary to the public and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
