Hundreds Gather at Celebration of Life for Tony Sacca
Hundreds of friends, fans, VIPs, and numerous celebrities gathered together on Monday afternoon, February 6 inside the main showroom at the Stratosphere for a Celebration of Life for beloved, longtime Las Vegas entertainer/TV show host/ producer, Tony Sacca who passed away Monday night, January 31, at a local hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. His longtime love and partner, chef Josette LeBlond was at his side.

There was standing room only in the packed 650 seat showroom for the event hosted by Tony's longtime friend, Ron Garrett, who, for years, was Entertainment Director at the Sahara. Several notable entertainers such as singer Tony Orlando, legendary impressionist Rich Little, comedian and Emmy award winning actor Louie Anderson, master magician Lance Burton, illusionist Siegfried Fischbacher (of Siegfried & Roy fame), Wayne Newton, Frankie Scinta (of the multi-talented The Scintas) made their way to the stage to pay tribute to Tony Sacca. Each shared their own personal story and experience with the showbiz veteran, who would have turned 66 on February 20, 2017. Other celebrities that showed up to pay their respect and were spotted in the audience were female impersonator Frank Marino of Divas La Vegas, Zowie Bowie's Chris Phillips, singer Earl Turner, sports legend Rudy Ruettiger and The Bronx Wanderers's Vinny Adinolfi.
Born in Philadelphia, Tony was bitten by the show biz bug as a child and later performed all over the country and in Puerto Rico with his identical twin brother Robert, as the Sacca Twins. They moved to Las Vegas in 1981 and landed a gig in the lounge of the old MGM Grand that is now Bally’s. After Robert succumbed to leukemia in 1999 Tony began a solo career. Among his many achievements and accolades, Tony hosted Las Vegas's longest running TV talk show, Entertainment Las Vegas Style, where he interviewed over 500 celebrities. He was the talent director, host and star performer of the San Gennaro Festival, and produced and hosted the annual holiday, fundraising show “Merry Christmas Las Vegas” for 30 years. It was former Mayor Oscar Goodman, who dubbed Tony “Las Vegas Entertainment Ambassador” and in 2008 Tony was given a Star on Las Vegas Blvd. Most recently, Tony's dream of headlining a show on the strip finally came true with the opening of his show, Tony Sacca's“Vegas The Story”, staged at 2pm in the Ballys Windows Showroom, that garnered rave reviews from audiences and critics alike.

In paying tribute to his friend and fellow entertainer, Tony Orlando stated, “Of all people, Tony represented this town. No one loved show business more than him. He didn't headline one room. He headlined the city and become a piston to the engine that makes this town work.”
Joining Sacca and the love of his life, renowned French Chef Josette Leblond, were invited guests including members of the media, close friends, and several celebrities and entertainers including Spanish born actress, comedian and flamenco guitarist Charo, singer Denise Clemente, former showgirl Cindy Doumani, Hall of Fame Broadcaster and Marketing and Advertising Executive Ron Garrett, and Ms. America 1997 Susan Jeske, among others. The event featured a delicious buffet, live musical entertainment, Classic Vegas Entertainment footage, and recognition from local and state dignitaries and even the White House for Sacca's outstanding achievements, including holding the title of the longest running talk show host in the history of Las Vegas, as well as his volunteer work and service to to the Las Vegas community.

Lance Burton stated, “Tony was part of the fabric of Las Vegas. We lost a bright and shining light in the neon of Las Vegas. Let us be thankful that we had him for so long.”
Louie Anderson brought some laughter to the crowd by jokingly saying, “ Tony changed my life. I once weighed 190 pounds. He sent me photos of Raymond Burr and William Conrad to be my inspiration. He was trying to get me to diet, and I thought he wanted me to look like them. Tony’s annual San Gennaro Feast is responsible for one of my stomachs.” All kidding aside, Louie went on to praise Tony, adding, “My interview with Tony was the greatest I ever had. Tony respected all of the performers in Las Vegas, and if you don’t respect the performers here, you have missed the point of Las Vegas. He knew it. He had a great instinct.”
Frankie Scinta shared a voice mail on his cell phone from comedian George Wallace who said, “You know Tony would want us to laugh.”
Eric Bonnici, Executive Director of The Nevada Broadcasters Foundation posthumously awarded Tony with the Commemorative Medallion of Service for his work in the broadcast industry. Tony's older sister, Marie Tully, who flew into Vegas from the East Coast with her husband Ed, graciously accepted the award and went on to say “Tony always worked hard, especially when he moved to Las Vegas. Words cannot express how proud I am of my brother right now.”
Those who were unable to attend the event but were shown on video paying tribute to their fellow performer and friend included comedian Marty Allen, singer Lina Prima and comedian/actor Sandy Hackett.
On a personal note, I knew and was friends with Tony for over 20 years. Like everyone, I was shocked and saddened to learn about his sudden, unexpected, passing. He made an indelible mark on the Las Vegas entertainment scene and will be missed. I know he must have been looking down from heaven and was thrilled about the vast turnout for his Celebration of Life. Gone but never forgotten, Tony, may you rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, Sacca’s family request donations sent to the Youth Foundation For The Performing Arts. Always wanting to help young performers, the money goes towards scholarships for students studying the musical and performing arts. World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales Trot Down Las Vegas Blvd to Kick Off Big Game Festivities at Beer Park
BEER PARK at Paris Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Strip’s first rooftop bar and grill, kicked off Big Game festivities with the iconic Budweiser Clydesdales, Sunday morning, February 5.

The Las Vegas Strip was closed down at 8:30 a.m. as eight of the world-famous Clydesdales led a celebratory trot down Las Vegas Boulevard, culminating at the entryway to BEER PARK. Hundreds of fans cheered on the legendary horses ahead of the biggest game of the year, accompanied by Budweiser’s signature Dalmatian, April.

Football fans had the opportunity to snap photos with the Clydesdales at an exclusive, hour-long “meet and greet” at the Paris valet. To continue the festivities, BEER PARK planned an exclusive “Rooftop Tailgate” party for the Big Game, where fans watched the game on dozens of screens and enjoy buffet-style food and selections from the venue’s more than 100 brews of beer.

In honor of the Lunar New Year, the Bellagio's Conservatory & Botanical Gardens have revealed a vibrant Lunar New Year display. Envisioned by renowned designer Ed Libby in collaboration with the Bellagio Horticulture team and Feng Shui Master George Yau, the gardens are brought to life by colorful flowers, silk-lantern chandeliers and a preview of the highly anticipated Bellagio by MGM Shanghai resort, set to open in summer 2017.
In an ongoing effort to help alleviate fears and uncertainty among students and families in Southern Nevada, THE ROGERS FOUNDATION reveals a large-scale mural designed to encourage forward-looking understanding and acceptance. Encompassing the entire west-facing wall of The Rogers Foundation building on 9th Street in downtown Las Vegas, THE WALL OF UNDERSTANDING, CREATED BY CORE ACADEMY ARTIST IN RESIDENCE MICHAEL DODSON, is a boldly-colorful, visual work of art for the community. “Our ongoing mission is to transform lives through education and arts. Given that our programs support some of Southern Nevada’s most vulnerable students, making a bold statement in support of them is of paramount importance,” said Beverly Rogers, Chairman of the Board of The Rogers Foundation

Central to the acrylic-gloss, spray paint piece is a melding of the brain and heart, surrounded by red roses in bloom. Green dendrites further punctuate the purple background of the visually-compelling piece. Titled “Conscious Gateway,” the freehand mural took Dodson about three weeks to complete and is the largest painting he has created to date.
“I have always been fascinated with the brain and when you think about what The Rogers Foundation and what Core Academy each do, it seemed natural to combine the brain and heart – sort of visually representing education, logic and reason as well as nurturing, compassion and growth,” explained Dodson. The Las Vegas native chose colors that make him feel good in hopes that those who see the work of art also feel a calming, positive vibe. The mural is publicly visible and can be viewed best from 9th Street and Garces Avenue. It will remain on display indefinitely.
While the month of February is typically reserved for romance between sweethearts, BODIES…THE EXHIBITION inside Luxor Hotel and Casino encourages Las Vegans and visitors to have a heart and give more than just chocolate or flowers this year. Due to financial reasons, DU-PAR'S RESTAURANT & BAKERY AT GOLDEN GATE HOTEL & CASINO in Downtown Las Vegas closed February 7 at midnight.
While the restaurant will be closed for the time being, Golden Gate is currently evaluating future opportunities for the space.
LUCKY DRAGON HOTEL & CASINO (located at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip at 300 W. Sahara Blvd.), the first in Las Vegas to offer an authentic Asian gaming, dining and lifestyle experience, announced plans for an expanded VIP Gaming Lounge to accommodate the growing rolling chip program as well as non-rolling VIP gaming. Therapy restaurant will transform into the ‘THERAPY WAITING ROOM,’ displaying a variety of student art pieces, thanks to a new partnership with the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (LVA). Located in the Fremont East Entertainment District, Therapy will display LVA senior students’ art projects throughout the restaurant, with a FORMAL GALLERY OPENING CELEBRATION beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10. The restaurant will offer complimentary food and beverage throughout the evening, for open-house attendees. LVA seniors, Keara Hughes and Bryan Damasco will display their paintings throughout the American-gastro restaurant, which will be available for purchase with profits going back to LVA and its students. Therapy will continue to showcase the students’ artwork for two weeks following the open-house and will be continue to be available for purchase. The downtown restaurant plans to host one gallery event each month for LVA students to promote their art within the Las Vegas community.
THE COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF FINE ARTS will host an EXHIBITION OF COLLABORATIVE PAINTING AND INSTALLATION ARTWORK BY IRANIAN BORN ARTIST ALI FATHOLLAHI AND NANDA SHARIF-POUR, TITLED “HEARING A MIRROR”, beginning Friday, February 10, that will run through Saturday, March 25, 2017. Fathollahi and Sharif-pour’s artwork makes use of uncanny imagery, reflections, reproductions and artifacts as it asks such questions as: What do we experience when we experience others or ourselves? How much of it is reality and how much of it is a story we tell ourselves? What is the nature of conversation between the observer and the observed? Fathollahi and Sharif-pour will participate in a Gallery Talk at 7 p.m. and an Artist Reception on Friday, February 10, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the CSN Artspace Gallery. The CSN Artspace Gallery is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. THE COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF FINE ARTS will also host an EXHIBITION OF CLAY AND PIGMENT PAINTINGS BY NEW YORK ARTIST, WILLIAM RULLER titled “William Ruller: Lowland” beginning Friday, February 10 that will run through Saturday, March 18, 2017. Ruller’s artwork explores the visual language of dilapidated areas of metropolitan and rural sites as it combines clay with traditional painting materials. Mr. Troutman will participate in an artist talk on Thursday, February 9, at 6 p.m. in room H207 at the North Las Vegas Campus. An artist reception will take place on Friday, February 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery. The CSN Fine Arts Gallery is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Former Dancing With The Stars pro and choreographer LACEY SCHWIMMER has teamed up with LEGENDS IN CONCERT, the longest-running show in Las Vegas, to unveil a stunning new production number to open the show at Flamingo Las Vegas on February 11. The opening number will feature the song “Legends Never Die” which highlights this beautiful theme threaded through the musical tour de force.
“We are ecstatic to present an opening theatrical number for the first time in the show’s 34 year history. Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 7, Broadway star Billy Harrigan Tighe, will star as “J.M. Barrie” in the national tour of FINDING NEVERLAND, which will perform for a limited time at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, Feb. 14 – 19. Tighe’s recent credits include PIPPIN on Broadway, “Fiyero” in WICKED and “Elder Price” in THE BOOK OF MORMON, both in the West End and on National Tour.
On Feb. 17, THE ANIMAL FOUNDATION, which operates Nevada’s largest open-admission animal shelter, will celebrate the GRAND RE-OPENING OF THE PETSMART CHARITIES EVERYDAY ADOPTION CENTER inside PetSmart Henderson store at 286 West Lake Mead Parkway. PetSmart Charities, the leading funder of animal welfare in North America, donated more than $100,000 to The Animal Foundation to help finance staffing needs, purchase crucial supplies and assist with operational costs for the adoption center. The funding support is expected to contribute to multiple years of operation. To celebrate the PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center opening, The Animal Foundation and PetSmart Charities will be presented with Las Vegas’ largest dog treat created by The Cookie Zoo, to commemorate the occasion.
