Staying true to its roots, the Golden Gate’s new contemporary look draws inspiration from its colorful past spanning the roaring 20s, Prohibition, Rat Pack era, rise and fall of the Vegas mob and now the 21st century. Its new 35,000-square-foot, five-story luxury tower boasts 14 hotel suites designed as a tribute to notable guests like Frank, Sammy and Dean; while two vintage showgirl-inspired penthouses encompass the entire fifth floor. An expanded casino floor features a new 1920s flapper-inspired high-limit gaming room, complemented by Golden Gate’s playful dancing dealers. The tower’s exterior is accented with illuminated pinstripes juxtaposed against a modern digital marquee and Golden Gate’s first porte-cochere, offering the most convenient parking in downtown Las Vegas.

Celebrities Attend Private Grand Opening for Eli Roth’s GORETORIUM

Celebrities packed into Eli Roth’s GORETORIUM, located on The Strip across from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, for the private grand opening event of Vegas’ first year-round haunt experience, on Thursday September 27. The 15,000-square-foot $10 million project is packed with state-of-the-art scares, bone-chilling special effects and a cast of horrifying characters.

The evening began with creator Eli Roth performing a “chainsaw” cutting ceremony on the mezzanine level of the haunt, which he brought down to the celebrity black carpet strewn with bloodied white carnations to rev up the crowd.  Notable guests that walked the black carpet included Dave Navarro (musician), JABBAWOCKEEZ, Corey Miller (TV personality/tattoo artist “LA Ink”), Zak Bagans (“Ghost Adventurers”), Victoria Asher (musician, “Cobra Starship”), DJ Paul (Three 6 Mafia), Omar Doom (actor, “Inglorious Basterds”), Dj Ashba (lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses/Sixx: A.M.), Antonio Bellatore (host, “The Antonio Bellatore Project”/HGTV Design Star), Miss Nevada 2012 Jade Kelsall, Shanna Moakler (actress, first runner up Miss USA 1995), Zab Judah (professional boxer) and Elina Madison (actress).

Following the black carpet, Roth escorted guests to the 60’s-inspired “Baby Dolls” lounge overlooking the Strip, to partake in a special moment with world renowned illusionist Franz Harary.  The actor/director got comfortable inside a vintage “exercise machine,” and twisted his upper body 360 degrees while his legs stayed in one place.  Guests gasped in horror when he began coughing up blood and “guts” were thrown into the crowd.  The machine sucked a patron inside the contraption, yet Roth came out in one piece.

As the GORETORIUM characters mingled throughout Baby Dolls, guests were able to enjoy one of the specialty cocktails appropriately named “Eli Roth’s Blood” as they listened to a mash-up of Top 40 beats.

At 11:00 p.m. GORETORIUM opened its doors to the public.

Wine Country welcomes the spirit of autumn at Bellagio's Conservatory & Botanical Gardens

The sights, scents and sounds of the harvest season are on display at Bellagio’s Conservatory through Nov. 24, with the arrival of a captivating fall exhibition that takes guests on a romantic journey through wine country, without leaving Las Vegas. This year’s show boasts a bevy of seasonal visuals including an authentic cider mill, a vintage wine press and an aged stone face.

Upon entrance to the Conservatory’s stunning display sits a covered bridge surrounded by flora dressed in traditional harvest colors: green, red and orange. Visitors are encouraged to walk across the bridge as large ginger leaves float silently overhead. Lying in the South Garden is a 6-foot-tall moss-coated aged stone face emerging from the grassy ground. A floral pumpkin made of 3,000 orange carnations and moss-covered boulders creates an intoxicating autumn atmosphere.

Also in the South Garden and surrounded by birch trees, the sounds of the harp, violin and cello will entertain guests daily from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. as they travel through wine country.

Steps away, in the West Garden, a 40-foot-tall authentic cider mill gently flows into a rocky pond protected by a 15-foot-tall, traditional scarecrow. Hand-blown wine bottles, demijohns and petite and plentiful pumpkins awaken the spirit of autumn at every turn.

The North Garden is home to a 1920s vintage-aged wine press and 20-foot-tall talking tree showered with wine grapes. On each side of the tree, grape and gourd-filled cornucopias spill onto the grassy earth while inviting guests to explore the wonder of wine. In conjunction with the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s exhibit “Claude Monet: Impressions of Light,” the Conservatory has created a floral interpretation of Claude Monet’s Grainstack (sunset). Located in the Giardini corner, the recreated painting is fitted within a 6-foot tall elaborately carved frame.

The fall exhibit within Bellagio's Conservatory & Botanical Gardens is complimentary to the public and open daily, 24 hours a day.

Additional recent and upcoming “happenings” in and around Las Vegas include:

At Saturday evening's performance I was blown away by his beautiful, rich vibrato voice reminiscent of the late legendary singer/songwriter Roy Orbison.
