Epic Poker League inaugural events

As of press time, the Epic Poker League had completed Day 1 of its first Main Event, a 6-Max No-Limit Hold ‘Em tournament open only to Epic’s 252 members and nine winners of the Pro/Am contested Friday through Monday – 8 because Andy Bloch, who won a seat, was already a League member. A total of 137 players entered, and after Tuesday’s six levels, 63 remained.

Tournament Director Matt Savage, Commissioner Annie Duke, Epic Poker, and the Palms combined to create an experience enthusiastically embraced by the world’s best players: great structure, personalized service, food and rooms, and overall first-class treatment. With the $400,000 added to the pool by Federated Sports + Gaming, Epic Poker’s parent company, the prize pool exceeded $3.1 million. Eighteenth place will pay $43,190, and the winner will earn $982,660 and the Champion’s Ring.

Eugene Katchalov held the first day chip lead, with 356,300. Two of the most outstanding performers from the just-completed World Series of Poker, Ben Lamb (287,200) and Brian Rast (260,500) were the closest pursuers. Antonio Esfandiari (248,100) and Noah Schwartz (220,200) also had over 200,000 chips. (The final level of the day was 500-1,000/100 ante.)

Al Jardine Takes You Back In Time At Endless Summer Beach Party at The Riviera
Enjoy The Beach Boy Music Til August 14

Remember “I Get Around” or “Surfing USA” by The Beach Boys?  If these songs make you smile, then head for the Riviera Hotel now to enjoy An Endless Summer Beach Party until August 14.

Al Jardine, a founding member of The Beach Boys and part of the group for 35 years, leads his nine member Endless Summer Beach Band on a trip down memory lane.  As The Beach Boys' rhythm guitarist and harmony vocalist,  Jardine sang lead on many of their top hits including the number one hit "Help Me, Rhonda" as well as "Then I Kissed Her," "Christmas Day," and "Cotton Fields.” Several members of Jardine’s band have an association with the original Beach Boys.  Al leads the band and fellow vocalists including his two songs as they perform Beach Boy classics.

Much of the music has a similar sound, but if that was your thing, you’ll love it.  The songs are uplifting and the music fills the Starlight Theater wonderfully.  The audience clapped along with much of the show and even moved some to get up and dance.  And what a treat to see Billy Hinsche, Jardine’s Musical Director. Many will remember him from the group Dino, Desi, & Billy.

The night included a tribute to Carl Wilson complete with video.  If you enjoyed the Beach Boys, this is your chance to get your fix. The show runs nightly Wednesday through Sunday at 7:30 pm in the Starlite Theatre. Tickets are $39.95 for preferred seating and $59.95 for VIP seating, exclusive of tax and fees. (As a special offer, locals will receive 50% off tickets). For tickets, visit www.rivierahotel.com, call 702-794-9433 or visit the Riviera Box Office.
