The glitz and glamour of the 83rd Academy Awards shined in Las Vegas thanks to an event sponsored by Variety, the children’s charity. Celebrities and contributors dressed to the nines and walked the red carpet at the Brenden Theater at the Palms Casino Resort.
Variety - The Children's Charity of Southern Nevada is an enthusiastic group of business leaders who donate their time, resources, and energy to positively impact the lives of children with special needs in their own communities and around the world. The Charity serves more than 20,000 local special needs children and has donated more than $7 million worth of goods, services and money to programs affiliated with 36 local agencies.
Tickets ranging from $50 to $500 permitted guests access to venues ranging from the theater’s closed circuit broadcast to the comfort of Johnny Brenden’s luxurious 4,000 sq. ft Celebrity Suite.
VIP ticket holders had the opportunity to walk the same red carpet as the celebrities who turned out in support of the charity. Those contributing $500 enjoyed limo service to the west casino entrance, arrival on the red carpet, admission to the private VIP celebrity Reception, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and host bar, private balcony theater seating for viewing the ABC telecast, a souvenir program and complimentary admission to an Oscar Night after-party at the Playboy Club.
Guests mixed and mingled with a host of celebrities. Many contributed further to the Variey fund-raiser through participation in a silent auction. Others enjoyed the red carpet walk and theater seating for the viewing of the telecast as well as food vouchers and admission to the Oscar party at the Playboy club. This event was the only official Oscar Viewing Party in the State of Nevada sanctioned by the Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Kevin Burke, star of “Defending The Caveman” at Harrah’s and “Fitz of Laughter” at Fitzgerald’s, served as the official host of the private party, seeing to it that guests were introduced to their favorite celebrities and that all enjoyed the fun and excitement of Oscar night.
According to Clinton Billups, producer of the event, actress Rebecca Olson said she will definitely be coming back to Vegas next year, adding. “You guys know how to throw a party.”
