Locals lined up to check out Shake Shack's newest location
Shake Shack opened its second Las Vegas Valley Restaurant in the Dining Arroya section of the Downtown Summerlin Complex. It isn’t often that the opening of a fast casual hamburger restaurant gets a lot of media attention. But most restaurants do not have the cult-like following of Shake Shack. The company refers to its locations as “roadside” burger stands. Locations become fun and lively community-gathering places with widespread appeal.

The company began business in 2001 as a hot dog cart stand in New York City's Madison Square Park and in 2004 Shake Shack was officially born. It now has over 60 restaurants worldwide and is a publicly held company with a net worth exceeding $3 billion. What a success story.
I had the pleasure of sampling their menu items at a pre grand opening event and began to understand why this company is so successful. Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day “roadside” burger stand known for its 100% all-natural, antibiotic-free Angus beef burgers (no hormones added ever), griddled flat-top dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries and more. In addition, a sign at the ordering station says, “FOOD ALLERGIES: Please let us know.” I'm sure many folks appreciate that.
Shack Stack Burger
We sampled many of the products. Shake Shack offers five different burger combinations. We ordered the Shack Stack burger which is a combination of the cheeseburger and mushroom (vegetarian) burger. The mushroom burger was unique and consisted of a portobello mushroom deep fried and filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses. A really great and flavorful combination.
The SmokeShack is a cheeseburger topped with all natural applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper and ShackSauce
The french fries were crispy and did not have the greasy taste often associated with fast food. They are available with cheese as well
Most folks may not know that the company started by selling hot dogs. The Summerlin restaurant offers four different hot dogs. We selected the ShackMeister dog. The hormone free hot dog is grilled and then coated with cheddar and American cheese sauces. It is topped with grilled shallots. The final result is unique and tasty.
As one might expect from its name, Shake Shack offers a wide variety of milk shakes made from their homemade custards. They also feature a variety of concretes which consist of dense frozen custard blended at high speed with a variety of mix in ingredients. Mix ins include such items as cookie dough, chocolate chunks, and cheesecake. Beer, wine and conventional fountain drinks are also available.
There is more to the Shake Shack mystique than just food. The company prides itself in the fact that all meat is hormone free. It makes a conscious effort to protect the environment in all its businesses. This resonates well with its consumer base.
Shake Shack believes in giving back to the community and is planning to donate 5 % of the sales of its Red Velvet Rocks concrete to the Community in Schools organization. They will also contribute 1% of their water sales.
The interior of Shake Shack
I spoke briefly with General Manager Michael Wang , who is a great spokesman for the company. He explained that he will strive to make the restaurant into a family friendly place where you can still get fast food, but also experience great service. Most folks don’t expect the level of service he plans to provide at a dining establishment where all items are under $10.
After eating here and talking to Michael, I can understand why the eateries are so popular. For more information on the latest Shake Shack, visit https://www.shakeshack.com/location/summerlin-nv/
