Rob Garrett begins his Neil Diamond Tribute show by singing “Hello My Friend”. He had me at hello! Before this 70 minute show in the Shimmer Cabaret Room at the Westgate was over, I could safely say, “I'm a Believer”. Rob calls himself the “King of Diamonds” and I can't imagine anyone having more right to the title than he does. He is America's number one Neil Diamond tribute artist.

This long time Las Vegas resident has the look, the moves and the sounds of Neil Diamond. His repertoire includes “She's Got a Way of Moving”, “Play Me”, 'Love on the Rocks”, “Forever in Blue Jeans” just to name a few.

This show has so many sing-along numbers. Sometimes Rob cues the audience to join in, other times, they just do. How can you not join in when he sings Sweet Caroline. Ba ba ba... right?! So much of this music is foot stomping, hand clapping stuff.

The talented Rosanna Telford sings background throughout the show and is invited to step forward to replicate the famous “You Don't Bring Me Flowers” duet sung by Neil and Barbra Streisand. As Rob ssang number after number it brought me to the realization of just how many hits the legendary Neil Diamond had. And Rob nails them, one after the other.

Rob Garrett took a little time to chat with us, giving small doses of his history. He talked about his mentor, the late great Paul Revere-- from Paul Revere and the Raiders. Then Neil Diamond. Like his legendary counterpart, Rob was born and raised in New York City. His main musical influences were Elvis, the Beatles, and not surprisingly - Neil Diamond.

The Shimmer Cabaret Room at the Westgate is a perfect venue for this act. Rob and his four backup musicians fill the room with wonderful music rather than overwhelming it with over the top loud sounds.

Rob, “You Got The Way To Make Me Happy”. Rob told the audience that Neil Diamond's hit “Coming to America” was written for Neil's grandparents. Rob said that he felt like it was for his grandparents as well. There's a strong connection in the history, the looks, and the ability to entertain. Go see Rob Garrett's tribute to Neil Diamond in the Shimmer Cabaret Theater at the Westgate Wednesday through Sunday.
