El Dorado Cantina Serves Healthy Tasty Mexican Food in Las Vegas
Healthy Mexican food? That's what the El Dorado Cantina Restaurant & Bar promotes.
This Mexican restaurant is listed in the Huntington Press "Eating Las Vegas" book as one of the 50 essential restaurants in Las Vegas. It has been honored by Yelp as the top Mexican Restaurant in Las Vegas. That's pretty impressive for a restaurant which is celebrating two years of delicious healthy Mexican food.
This upscale Las Vegas eatery features a gorgeous 181-seat restaurant and lounge serving authentic Mexican cuisine beautifully representing the vast culinary traditions of various regions of Mexico.
The restaurant, created by Brett Talla and Darin Feinstein, features flavorful food and continues to draw repeat customers for more reasons than just that one. El Dorado Cantina believes in sustainably raised products, which means all beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, and fish originate from carefully selected farms in the U.S. and are free from antibiotics, pesticides, and steroids.

El Dorado Cantina maintains a refined and sophisticated decor and offers a welcoming atmosphere created by rich, dark woods, hand-woven and deep red wall coverings, as well as elegant antique furnishings. including two aged antique Mexican oak and copper doors hung near the bar, wrought-iron Mexican light fixtures which add a soft lighting ambiance, several antique mirrors, and custom-built lighted birch boxes which showcase the premium Tequilas.
The décor is all fine and good, but it is the food that keeps customers returning time and again.
Happy Second Anniversary - Photo by Dianne R. Davis
My wife Dianne and I had eaten here previously, so we knew we would enjoy attending the second anniversary celebration. The restaurant is located adjacent to The Sapphire Gentlemen's Club but don't let the location dissuade you from visiting and enjoying this high quality upscale eatery.
Chef Paco has extensive experience in the industry - Photo by Dianne R. Davis
We had the opportunity to visit with Chef Paco who reviewed his philosophy and the nature of the food he prepares. The restaurant serves authentic Mexican food that is non-GMO and organic. Chef Paco takes prides in using vegetables, meats and fish that originate in farms free of antibiotics, pesticides and steroids. The menu lists the actual suppliers of the varied food items used by El Dorado.
Their menu features a multitude of Vegan and gluten free items -- unusual for a Mexican restaurant. We were able to sample a variety of menu selections during the celebration and our previous visits to the restaurant.
Guacamole - Photo courtesy of Red Mercury
Guacamole varies widely from restaurant to restaurant, but we really enjoyed El Dorado's version which is prepared table side. It contains a delightful mixture of fresh organic avocados mixed with organically grown serrano chiles, garlic, tomatoes, onions, cilantro and lime juice. Not too spicy and not too mild and served with organic house prepared tortilla chips.
The Imperial Shrimp is unique. It is prepared from Pacific shrimp that are wrapped in organic bacon, stuffed with seafood and then lightly fried. You can dip this into the chipolte ranch dressing for an incredible taste treat.

The Mexican shrimp cocktail is a tasty gluten free dish. The Pacific shrimps are immersed in a organic tomato broth with pico de gallo, fresh organic Hass avocado and organic lime.
We tasted empanadas that are made with gluten free corn masa turnovers stuffed with Mexican ricotta cheese and pulled free range chicken. They were topped with sour cream, salsa casabel, and queso fresco.

The El Dorado's signature tacos are prepared with a variety of fresh ingredients and are pleasant to look at and great to eat. The gluten free menu contains two vegetarian tacos.
If you are in the mood for unusual food, you should try the Capelins or sauteed grasshoppers.
After downing a margarita, I courageously put my fork into the garlic lime version of this traditional Aztec dish. The grasshoppers were tasty, but I would have enjoyed them more if I didn't know what I was eating.

We sampled several slider size Mexican Burgers. Theses organic beef burgers are topped with Mexican three cheeses blend, crisp organic bacon, spicy, green peppers onions, and of course, guacamole. What a great treat.
Flan – Photo by Dianne R. Davis
The flan is a great way to finish off your meal. The menu explains that it is “traditional sweetened organic condensed milk, organic evaporated milk organic eggs & natural cane sugar cooked to perfection”. It was sweet and extremely creamy. Quite different from flan I have had elsewhere.
The items listed above are just a small sampling from their extensive menu. I would recommend reviewing El Dorado's menu before your first trip there. El Dorado is open 24/7 and includes some enticing breakfast selections.
If you are visiting Las Vegas, it is worth a cab ride to dine at The El Dorado Cantina Restaurant & Bar which is located on 3025 Sammy Davis Jr. Drive in Las Vegas close to The Circus Circus Casino. You will be glad you did.
