If you enjoy 1960’s or Rat Pack era music, you will appreciate the performances of  Reckless In Vegas aka RIV.  This trio, headed by lead guitarist Michael Shapiro, specializes in converting these songs to an updated swinging rock beat.  The final product is a fast paced trip down memory lane which includes such classic 60’s era songs as “I’ve Got You Babe”, “Mr Bojangles”,and “Can't Take My Eyes Off You”.
The group consists of lead guitarist and leader Michael Shapiro, drummer Ryan Low, and bassist Chris Nichols.  Their musical arrangements and between songs banter were well received and are designed for a Vegas audience.
The singing starts with a driving rock version of Sinatra’s “Luck Be a Lady” with footage of Frank in the background.  In fact, many of Sinatra’s well known songs such as “My Way” and “One for the Road” are included in their show and performed with the group’s upbeat arrangement.
My favorite number was RIV’s rendition of Sammy Davis’s classic “Mr Bojangles”  It was played in front of rare screen footage of Sammy dancing to this classic.
RIV also performed their versions of such classic songs as Dean Martin’s “Everbody Loves Somebody” and Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”.  The crowd loved these arrangments.
Two  leggy and athletic dancers enhanced the show as they performed for such numbers as “Mambo Rock” and “The Beat Goes On”
Familiar songs made famous by Tony Bennett, Frankie Valli, and Elvis Presley filled out the program.  Cameo appearances by local Vegas favorites Kelly Clinton-Holmes and Chris Phillips aka Zowie Bowie were plus features.
I especially enjoyed the fact that all of the group’s songs were familiar.  RIV should be continually well received by Vegas audiences.  Their next scheduled appearances are August 28 and 29 at Maryilyn’s inside The Eastgate Cannery Casino and September 19 and October17 in the Chrome Showroom at Sante Fe Station Casino. All shows start at 9:00 PM and there is no cover charge.  See you there.
