Female Impersonator Frank Marino Celebrates 30 Years of Performing in Las Vegas

Adding to his long list of accolades and achievements that includes not one, but two stars on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars, world renowned female impersonator and The Queen of the Strip, Frank Marino, recently celebrated 30 years of performing on the Las Vegas Strip.  Last year he made the Guinness Book of Records for being the longest running headliner in the history of Las Vegas. “I can’t believe it’s been 30 years – it doesn’t show, does it? For 30 years, it has felt like I’ve lived on a permanent vacation,” said the international entertainment icon. “It’s not a job performing, it’s a pleasure being able to perform.”

In honor of his 30th anniversary, Marino has also created a Commemorative Frank Marino doll, named the “Frankie” Doll, which has hundreds of different costumes, just like the Diva himself.

Marino's show “Divas Las Vegas” runs nightly at 9:30 pm at The Linq Hotel & Casino and stars Marino as the hilarious, comic icon, the late Joan Rivers along with an all star cast of talented female impersonators who do an amazing job recreating several of the music industry's biggest superstars including Madonna, Celine Dion, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Bette Midler, Britney Spears, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain, Liza Minelli, Cher, Beyonce and Tina Turner, complete with spot on mannerisms, hair, makeup and gorgeous costumes.  The cast also features a troupe of fantastic male dancers, that accompany the impersonators who lip sync to some of the music icon's greatest hits.  Meanwhile, as the show’s emcee and star, Marino brings an international whirlwind of couture to the stage with each spectacular entrance.

World Premiere of Lance Burton's Billy Topit Master Magician

The World Premiere of Lance Burton's film Billy Topit Master Magician, that he produced, cowrote (with Michael Goudeau), directed and stars in, took place at Brenden Theatres in The Palms Resort Casino on Thursday evening, September 24. Prior to the 6 pm start of the film there was a red carpet featuring a long list of celebrities and fellow magicians who were there to show support for their acclaimed colleague and friend. Among the arrivals were Rich Little, Mike Hammer, Anthony Cools, Clint Holmes and Kelly Clinton,  last year's America's Got Talent winner Mat Franco, Criss Angel, the Amazing Johnathan, Jarrett & Raja, Fantasy cast members,  several hunks from Thunder From Down Under, Lydia Ansel,  SEXXY choreographer/dancer Jennifer Romas and other cast members, Johnny Thompson, the Great Tomasini, and member of the film's cast including Joelle Righetti, Michael Holly, Michael Goudeau, Russ Merlin, Tommie Laing, Fielding West, Rory Johnston and George Joseph.

All proceeds from tickets sales benefit three locals charities that are close to Burton's heart: Variety The Children’s Charity of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas Shriners and Nevada SPCA. “I hope to spread a little magic around the world with “Billy Topit Master Magician” and here at home,” Burton said.

“Billy Topit Master Magician” is not a biography of Lance Burton’s life but a fictional character in a fictional setting that is set in Lance’s adopted hometown of Las Vegas.   “The one thing Billy and I share in common is this, we both love magic and we both love Las Vegas. I guess that is two things actually” stated Lance.

The independent comedy took over five years from idea to theatrical release and has been Lance’s labor of love since retiring his stage show in 2010 at the Monte Carlo Resort. The inspiration for the movie goes back to Lance’s childhood when he watched the TV series “The Magician” starring Bill Bixby. “I loved that show,” stated Burton. “Through the years there have been many films and TV shows with magician characters and some were quite good. I just felt that I could bring something to the table that was genuine. Something based in reality. I didn’t want to do the stereotypical mysterious magician character. That’s why Billy Topit is a struggling magician, even though he is very skilled.”

BILLY TOPIT MASTER MAGICIAN is a comedy adventure that tells the story of a skilled Las Vegas magician who performs at children’s birthday parties but dreams of making it big. When he meets and falls for pretty server at a local casino cafe, they start to date and he convinces her to be his assistant. Things gets complicated when some greasy mobsters come after Billy looking for money they believe he owes them.  Thankfully, he is able to use his magic skills to avoid confrontation. But when things go out of control,  Billy has to call on his best friends, The Magician, the Ventriloquist, the Jugglers, and the Mime for help. They aren't the A-Team, or even the B-Team, but they’re all he's got.

The cast of Billy Topit features many of Lance’s friends, most of which are magicians, jugglers, comedians, as well as actors. Louie Anderson, Mac King, as well as, Criss Angel all make cameo appearances.

While there might be a nightmare scene in the movie Lance went on to say, “This is a family friendly movie that I hope will connect with people all over the world. It is a love letter to Las Vegas. When I am no longer around, I hope Billy Topit will still be inspiring people to visit our city. I am also honored to be able to donate all of the funds raised by the World Premiere and Limited Engagement run at Brenden Theaters to three charities close to my heart, Variety The Children’s Charity of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas Shriners and Nevada SPCA.  I hope to spread a little magic around the world with “Billy Topit Master Magician” and here at home.”

George Strait To Perform Exclusive Worldwide Concert Engagements at New Las Vegas Arena

At a special press conference inside the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino on Tuesday morning, September 22,  Country Music Superstar, aka The King of Country Music, George Strait,  appeared in person after it was  announced that he will be among the first entertainers to perform at the new Las Vegas Arena scheduled to open in April 2016.  The Country Music Hall of Fame inductee will perorm a series of exclusive worldwide concert engagements at the new venue April 22, April 23, September 9 and September 10, 2016.  Opening for Strait will be GRAMMY, ACM and CMA Award-winning singer/songwriter Kacey Musgraves, who recently released her second studio album Pageant Material to critical acclaim.  This announcement is the first of an exciting, prestigious lineup of incredible performers who will appear on the Arena’s stage.

Tickets for the concert series range in price from $75 to $200 plus applicable fees and go on sale for the general public Friday, Oct. 2 at 10:00 a.m. PT at  www.straittovegas.com

“This is an exciting announcement for the Las Vegas Arena, and another example of why Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capital of the World,” said Rick Arpin, senior vice president of entertainment and development, MGM Resorts International. “We are thrilled that George is going to be a huge part of our opening season with this special exclusive engagement.  He has had a significant impact on our city’s entertainment landscape over the years and we are thrilled he will provide Las Vegas visitors and our local community the opportunity to see a series of additional legendary performances.”

George Strait said, "I said all along I wasn’t going to tour anymore, but I also said that I wasn’t retiring by any means and I still wanted to do some dates. I’ve been working a little bit here and there, and I’m really proud of this new album that’s coming out. I’m also very excited to be coming back out and playing for the fans out there. It has been a year and 10 months since I performed with my band.  I'm looking forward to singing those songs I love to sing.  I’m really, really looking forward to being able to play in the new Las Vegas Arena. I hear it’s just unbelievable. I can’t wait."

During a Q & A session with members of the media Strait was asked, “Why Las Vegas?”. He responded, “Las Vegas has been part of my country career. Most recently I performed at the MGM in the Garden.  The crowds are great. There is so much to do here. A concert is a bonus. My first gig was at the Frontier when two shows a night was common, then the Hilton. I stayed in The Elvis Presley suite. I filmed a movie (Pure Country) at the Mirage; played there and the Nugget, and now here. It feels like home.”

It was also announced at the press conference that Strait will release his new album Cold Beer Conversation, Friday, Sept. 25. The album was produced by Chuck Ainlay and Strait and features 13 songs including his latest single, “Cold Beer Conversation”  that premiered on country radio.

The installation is an encore of sorts to the atrium’s summer display, which artfully evolved throughout the season.  Nearing the end of the summer, the seasonal art installation began to show hints of autumn, both in content and color palette. The full transition into autumn was recently completed, taking a crew of 14 team members working 10 hours overnight.

Guests can experience the beautiful Fall display at The Palazzo through November 16.
