Therapy Las Vegas Celebrates Grand Opening in Downtown Las Vegas

Therapy, located at 518 E. Fremont St. between 6th St. and Las Vegas Blvd, celebrated its grand opening Thursday night, June 18,  with a party and ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Carolyn Goodman. Therapy will introduce Downtown Las Vegas to progressive, yet approachable American cuisine and hand-crafted cocktails when it officially opens for business Friday evening.

To kick off the night, Therapy co-owners Jared Weiss and Sig Rogich joined Mayor Goodman in toasting to the opening with a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony. Therapy was also presented with an official proclamation from the office of Congresswoman Dina Titus welcoming the restaurant to the neighborhood.

During the party, hundreds of guests sampled a variety of Therapy’s signature small plates prepared by Executive Chef Daniel Ontiveros, including oxtail empanadas, shrimp ceviche, mixed mushroom flatbreads and a selection of cured meats and cheeses. Guests also enjoyed handcrafted cocktails, champagne, wine and beer while taking in music from a live jazz band. Notable guests included Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh, filmmaker- producer Nicholas Jarecki, Danny and Amy Tarkanian, among others.

Therapy will be open for dinner beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, June 19 through Sunday and will be open for full business hours beginning Monday, June 22. Hours of operation include 11 a.m. to midnight from Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

During the event, County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak, Clark County Commissioner and Chairman of the Board for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Lawrence Weekly and County Commission Vice Chairman Larry Brown welcomed EDC Las Vegas back to the city by presenting Rotella with a proclamation declaring it “EDC Week” in Clark County and on the Las Vegas Strip while congratulating him on five years in Las Vegas.

EDC Las Vegas officially kicks off Friday night, June 19 at 7 p.m. at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway with festival goers partying from dusk-till-dawn through June 21. The fully transformed speedway creates a neon-lit carnival experience with vibrant costumed performers, mind-blowing theatrics, interactive art installations, eight newly designed stages and a nightly fireworks display known to surpass the Olympics.

June Edition of Mondays Dark Benefits Orion Cancer Foundation

The June edition of Mondays Dark with Mark Shunock was held on Monday evening, June 15 inside Vinyl at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.  It was the 18th in a series of a monthly fundraising events that, so far, have raised over $180,000 to benefit local charities.   This month the charity of choice was the Orion Cancer Foundation which helps lesson the financial burden of people fighting cancer by giving them monetary assistance in paying their rent, bills, and other basic needs when they are not in the position to help themselves.

The theme for the entertainment filled evening was the music of “Motown” featuring some of the best singers, musicians and other performers in Las Vegas that donated their talent and time in support of the worthy cause. Backed by musical director Kenny Davidson on keyboard and a fantastic band, the lineup included singers Dani Corley (Gladys Knight's “If I Were Your Woman”); Elvis impersonator and one of the stars of Million Dollar Quartet, Justin Shandor (Stevie Wonder's “My Cherie Amor”) accompanied by Lisa Song Sutton on flute;  French singer Lou lLou White (Brenda Holloway's “Every Little Bit Hurts”);  Fantasy's Jamie Lynch (The Jackson Five's “Whose Lovin' You); Savannah Smith (The Jackson's “I Want You Back”);  Skye Dee Miles (The Temptation's “I Wish It Would Rain”);  Jassen Allen and Phillip Drennen (Smokey Robinson's “Cruisin”); Rock of Ages' Rustin Cole Sailors (Marvin Gaye's “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”);  an original Fly Girl from TV's oldie but goodie “In Living Color” Diedre Lang (Mary Wells' “My Guy”); one of the leads of “Motown the Musical” that is currently on tour Mark Moss (Stevie Wonder's “Superstition”); and Vegas The Show star Reva Rice (The Supremes' “You Keep Me Hangin' On”). Also taking the stage were hilarious comedians Drew Thomas and Marc Patrick, himself a cancer survivor, and celebrity journalist Robin Leach, who for the second consecutive month, read a funny but true “Missed Connection” that was actually posted on Craig's List.  In addition, making an appearance as a surprise guest was Sherry Gordy, the daughter of Motown founder, Berry Gordy.

Closing out the show were the fabulous Temptations tribute artists, “Motown Legacy”, who brought down the house with their fabulous rendition of Temptation hits including “Papa Was A Rolling Stone”, “Just My Imagination, “My Girl”, “Can't Get Next to You” and more, which incorporated spot on dance moves that mirrored those of the original group.

All proceeds from the evening's fundraising event, including ticket sales and a silent auction, will go to The Orion Cancer Foundation.  Next month's edition of Mondays Dark, which will have the theme “ A New York State of Mind”, will be held on July 20 to benefit The United Way of Southern Nevada. Advance tickets are $20, $30 at the door. You won't find a better and more worthy entertainment deal in Las Vegas.

On June 16, LAS VEGAS SANDS CORP. announced a new corporate citizenship commitment to provide homeless youth in the Las Vegas area increased educational resources and support during the summer school break, when they are at a higher risk to lose focus on their education.

Through donations to local service organizations NEVADA PARTNERSHIP FOR HOMELSS YOUTH (NPHY) and  STREET TEENS, LVS will help more homeless teens focus on their academic and professional futures by providing strengthened educational sites and assistance that are available year-round, including technology, personal support and scholarships.

 LVS has established a $60,000 grant for NPHY, to fund computers, books and other career resources for its drop-in center, which allow youth to focus on academics and plan their future with the help of NPHY's case managers, especially during the summer months when they have few good choices of where they will spend their time. This grant also will support scholarships, pay school fees for some clients and increase staffing to assist homeless youth.  LVS' also has established a $45,000 grant for STREET TEENS, which will allow the organization to expand its infrastructure and provide more educational resources at its drop-in center, which is a critical resource for homeless teens during the summer months.

Chateau Nightclub & Rooftop at Paris Las Vegas will throw an NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BASH HOSTED BY GOLDEN STATE WARRIOR, SMALL FORWARD, HARRISON BARNES on Saturday, June 20.  Known for making three major 3-point shots and leading the team to their victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2015 NBA Finals, Barnes will spend the evening in a lavish VIP booth.  Revelers and Golden State Warriors fans will join the athlete in a night full of bass thumping beats by famous hip-hop DJ, DJ Drama.  Admission to the party is $30.

Delano Las Vegas recently debuted “GRAVITATION,” a new installation by Zak Ostrowski.  Inspired by the picturesque Las Vegas desert, the exhibit showcases art derived from natural, locally sourced materials that emulate the design philosophy of The Strip’s newest hotel.

Each piece in GRAVITATION was deliberately selected to parallel the Mojave-inspired design concept of Delano Las Vegas, such as Ostrowski’s sculptural bench. Made of concrete, the sculpture combines art, design and nature while incorporating representations of desert sandstone into the finished piece.

Now through July 6, Delano Las Vegas guests can enjoy Ostrowski’s collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture on display throughout the hotel’s lobby. Processes like wood-burning, laser-cutting and automotive paint have transformed ordinary and organic objects into distinct and unexpected works of art. These works complement the dramatic divided boulder, gravity-defying rock sculpture and other desert-inspired décor found throughout Delano Las Vegas.

The critically acclaimed show FRANK – THE MAN. THE MUSIC.” starring Bob Anderson and featuring a 32-piece orchestra under the musical direction of Vincent Falcone, has extended its residency at The Palazzo Las Vegas through December 31, 2015.

Life Time Athletic Summerlin will host a POOLAPALOOZA POOL PARTY from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, at the club’s resort-style outdoor pool. The family-friendly event will feature a pirate theme and is open to both members and non-members.Poolapalooza will provide fun for all ages with a live DJ, giant inflatable waterslide, face painting, balloon animals, refreshments and pirate-themed attractions and giveaways for children. Fremont Street Experience’s ROCK OF VEGAS SUMMER CONCERT SERIES presents a FREE CONCERT by SMASH MOUTH AND TOAD THE WET SPROCKET on Saturday, June 27 at the 1st Street Stage. Toad the Wet Sprocket will take the stage first at 9 p.m. followed by Smash Mouth about 10:30 p.m.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas will be CLOSING the iconic, trendsetting, CENTER BAR on Sunday, June 28. In honor of the year it opened, the iconic hub will offer 1995-themed “Last Call” drink specials and will host a “Final Toast” party to commemorate the occasion.

Guests can enjoy Center Bar’s “LAST CALL” PROMOTION from Thursday, June 18 to Sunday, June 28. Direct from their Off-Broadway run, BevNap Productions will present the Las Vegas premiere of RE-DESIGNING WOMEN by Jamie Morris, the twisted mind behind plays including “Mommie Queerest,” (LA Weekly Theater Award winner), “The Silence of the Clams,” and “Gilligan’s Fire Island". Directed by Christopher Kenney (EDIE from “Zumanity”), this unauthorized original comedy parody, featuring an all male cast, celebrates one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 1980s. The 2015 “Ribbon of Life” production, ROCKIN’ THE RIBBON, has added even more amazing talent.
