Nearly 100 Couples Marry and Renew Vows for Free Riding on the High Roller at The Linq Promenade on 12-13-14

The High Roller at The LINQ Promenade in Las Vegas played host to nearly 100 lucky couples who “Put a Ring on It” for 12/13/14 – this century’s last sequential wedding date.  Offering complimentary weddings and vow renewals from 10:11 a.m. to 12:13 p.m., the “in-motion” ceremonies occurred 550-feet in the air featuring picturesque views of the Las Vegas skyline on the world’s tallest observation wheel. The event also served as a launch for the High Roller’s new wedding packages, making it the city’s most unique venue for the quintessential “quickie” 30-minute Las Vegas wedding.

The auspicious date drew couples from all over the nation who wanted to declare their never-ending adoration in a memorable and statement-making way. People began lining up, one twosome after the next, starting at 8:00 a.m. with the first licensed-to-wed couples boarding the 28 circular cabins at precisely 10:11 a.m.  The free simultaneous in-cabin ceremonies on The LINQ’s impressive new wheel included a mixture of pre-registered and walk-up couples celebrating their love, opposite and same-sex alike, all of whom received legally-binding weddings or vow renewals.

“We really love each other and this date came along and it seemed it was meant to be,” said bride Jaimee MacLean. “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and we were lucky enough to be on the first wedding cabin on the High Roller.”

“Today is an iconic date and this way I won’t have an excuse to forget our anniversary,” said groom Clay Giffin laughing. “We had been planning a beach-front wedding for a while but now that Nevada is honoring  same-sex marriages we decided to take advantage of this unique wedding location in Las Vegas high atop the High Roller.”

Many of the couples chose to celebrate a renewal including Andy and Melinda Leeka who have been married 27 years. The couple from Southern California planned multiple ceremonies on this iconic day of 12-13-14. “We are so delighted to be part of this celebratory day, the High Roller was the perfect first location to kick-off our full day of renewals,” said Andy Leeka. “Why wouldn’t you want to get married on the 8th Wonder of the World.”

Leading up to the day, the High Roller hosted two casting calls for ordained ministers. With personalities and characters ranging from local television anchors to Elvis impersonators, a total of 15 volunteer officiants were on hand to help create the cherished experience.

Among the betrothed was Las Vegas radio host Ken Johnson of 97.1-FM The Point and his other half Lori Kenney who immediately jumped at the opportunity to participate in the 12/13/14 wedding extravaganza.

“My girlfriend,” said Johnson, cutting his sentence short and smirking at his new spouse. “Excuse me, my wife.  My wife and I have been looking for the perfect way to take the next step. We heard about the High Roller’s 12/13/14 event and knew right away.  We live in Las Vegas so it only makes sense to hold a ceremony that’s over-the-top and very Vegas.  This was everything we wanted.”

Not only did each couple receive a complimentary ceremony, but they were also provided with a champagne toast, two commemorative photos and t-shirts to immortalize the historic day. Each couple shared their experience on the wheel with witnesses and celebrated further inside The LINQ Promenade with friends and family after the matrimonial ride on the High Roller.  Some couples opted for the High Roller’s special 12/13/14 wedding packages with private cabin ceremonies to further customize the experience throughout the special wedding date. Although 12/13/14 is winding down, the High Roller offers wedding packages day and night year-round for couples in search of an extraordinary venue.
